As good as the movie was, this book is orders of magnitude better. I had struggled with whether to choose the abridged, with Ms. Foster, or the unabridged. I am glad I chose the unabridged. As fan of science, I enjoyed hearing Dr. Sagan’s perspective on science and religion and I suspect those passages were what got chopped in the abridged. Those plus there were times when the plot wandered about. So if you’d rather focus on the main plot line, the abridged might be a better choice.
Laurel Lefkow’s narration was excellent. Only one of the accents annoyed me, the New York street accent. But honestly, that’s not her fault – she was true to the description of the accent given in the book.
Whichever version you chose, you will not be unhappy. It’s a great audiobook, well worth the listen.

While the few gaps and recording issues are slightly irrititating, I loved how the book was narrated, how she did the various voices. Very pleased.

How can I write a quick review of a book of this magnitude? By going "there" to the stars, to the depths of physics, we go "here" to the core of humanity, to life, to all. A science fiction of the plausible present. Only such written by a deeply experienced scientist could be so personal, so relevant. Sagan shows surprisingly good fiction talent; he clearly knew people well. Where shall we, humans, go from here? How should we craft our signature?

There to the stars, here to the crux of humanity

I love sci-fi and this book is brilliant. Better than the movie. well worth the time.

Great Inspiring Novel

I throughly enjoyed reading this book and I definitely recommend it. If there is intelligent life in the universe besides ours this is probably one way that we would receive it. It is interesting to see how we as a world would react to it. Also if I can add something personal if we did receive a message from another intelligence in the Universe it would strengthen my faith in God and it would show that God does exist.
