ok, but not appropriate for my parenting style

as new parents, we listened to this every weekend intently on what to expect. we got to week 17or 18 and felt some of the advice was not to our style and wasn't alligned to how we want to treat our little girl. we decided to stop listening after the advice on sleep training for naps was along the lines of if they cry...put in ear plugs..and it didn't seem to be meant in good humour....so with that upsetting me, we will no longer use the book in our journey.

Clear and short guidance

Great book although the part of sleep training is tough but authors pointed out that we can choose to do it or not.

Some useful information but not for anxious mums

I see this more as a reference guide to read as your baby reaches each week, rather than a book to inform you during pregnancy. Overall some useful practical guidance, but it’s peppered with lots of ‘don’t do X or your baby could hurt themselves/suffocate/die’ which I found quite shocking. Would not recommend for any anxious mums out there.

Good book

Accurate in some parts and good advice. But also some harsh outdated advice. 7/10

its like having a mum great book!

The book is helpful.. she's like a mum telling you what you NEED to know.
insightful, and I started this book when my baby was 6 weeks so listening thorough week 1 to 6 was very true and seemed to match up with what's going on.. helpful reminders about child credits which I didn't know about was good. tlThe amount of food notices and sleep ampunts is great. It seems like it's an up to date book with relatable and current parts .
I had my baby in Jan 2023. Thank you for such a book I have shared the book with my other mum friends!

Good and helpful.
I feel you don’t have to wait each week to listen to each episode as it’s good to read ahead someone’s to be aware of what’s up and coming. Plus each baby is different so some of the info you might need to hear earlier/later or it’s a tip that doesn’t necessarily fit for just that week.
My wife read the book and I listen to this audiobook over about a week or two to catch up with her. Really easy when I was committing or cooking dinner.
Good bits to note like “when to see a doctor” and “what’s happening to mummy”.
It’s well written and the narration is perfect in my opinion.
The lady has a lovely clear British voice and delivered in a friendly but professional manner and tone- like your local health professional would.
P.S. this was our first baby born in Kingston in August 2022 and we’re still n our mid thirties (for reference)
Enjoy

Helpful guide

Very helpful guide to early weeks and months. Some of the advice is no longer recommended (e.g. using olive oil) but brilliant help otherwise.

Outdated and cruel

Stopped listening after week 16 where it starts advocating for sleep training and crying it out. Not aligned with gentle and responsive parenting and I’d go as far as to say some of the advice borders on neglect! Can’t believe it’s written by mums and a doctor in 21st century!

Advocates sleep training

Very informative, but unfortunately it advocates sleep training and allowing your baby to cry for 15 minutes! Advises against rocking your baby to help them sleep too. So sad and unnecessary. Babies cannot self soothe. They just don't have the cognitive ability.

A great resource that I listened to many times.

This book is great for listening just a little each day. I've listened multiple times in a row and will probably do so a few more times before baby arrives. I just wish Audible had the second book which covers 6months to 1 year!

Up to 24 weeks only

This book is helpful for those of us who need to take things week by week. i appreciate a succinct explanation for baby’s development.

I did not however anticipate that the chapters end by week 24.
