Story
Stormy Morgan left her hometown of Shadow Hills, Michigan, with one goal: To write the great American novel and strike it rich. Now, without a book contract, she’s back at her family restaurant in a one-stoplight town...and she’s convinced things couldn’t possibly get worse. That feeling only lasts until her first shift, when on a trip to the storage building behind the restaurant, she literally trips over a body. Stormy is a woman - or maybe a witch - lost in a sea of magic and despair...but murder might just lead her out of it.

Oh what a difference a narrator makes!
First, understand that I love this series of books. The family, especially Aunt Tillie, Clove, Bay and Thistle are hysterical. Throw in a cheeky older lady and stories are generally winners. The Wicked Witches of the Midwest series sparkles-largely because of Aunt Tillie. She keeps the family embroiled in mischief like Lucy did with Ethel! But beginning with book 8, this series entire focus changes, highlighting the "antics" and silliness of the narrator. Other people have commented That Hollis McCarthy is a good narrator for other series, but not this one. She takes three 20 somethings who have been business owners and career women with pretty good heads on their shoulders, especially Bay who is quite clever, and turns them into cartoon characters who doubt their every movement. With Hollis McCarthy's narration, Thistle sounds like Yogi Bear calling Boo Boo! Clove is just whiny and Bay is indecisive. They all sound like children, not semi put-together young women-who have a lot of talent and knowledge as witches. Some characters benefit from Hollis McCarthy's narration, especially the men. Aunt Tillie is different, but I got used to her voice and like it just as well as Aris's Aunt Tillie. Also, the whole bacon thing and "You're on my list" have become a little too much. As Thistle tells Aunt Tillie in one of the later books, its a bit like crying wolf, it becomes so overdone.
All in all, these are still great books. I'm not going to stop reading them, but it's not quite as much fun listening to Yogi Bear and two Boo Boos navigate murder and mayhem as it was to listen to Thistle, Clove and Bay. I'm not sure how much input the authors have in who narrates their books, but I can't imagine that Ms. Lee would prefer the girls to come off as so inept and whiny.

This series just lost me.
I listened to the first 6 books in this series, and thought they were hilarious. Then they changed the narrator. Wow. This series has become painful to listen to. What's up with the weird voices? As mentioned in a previous review, Thistle does sound like a cross between Yogi Bear and Moe from the Three Stooges. I'll see if I can force myself to get though the books. I'm hoping the story will make up for this brutal narration.

Great until the narrator change
The story is great and I really like them, it's the only reason I didn't return the series. . The original narrator is great and adds to the story. The one who takes over makes the characters sound like stoned mob bosses from New Jersey.

Cutesy
Disappointed in books 7-9. Bay has gone from a strong career woman and witch to someone who barely works, seldom uses or develops her magic, and has a baby voice. The original personalities of her cousins have been exaggerated to the point that they are simply annoying. Their humorous squabbles have also escalated to the point of annoyance. The magic has disappeared from these last three books in more ways than one.

Don't Purchase!
Hollis is a horrible narrator! I had to go find the last two books to read. Hollis makes everyone sound like a stereotype male gangster from a 1930s or 1950s sitcom. Nails down a chalkboard would be less painful to listen to for four hours than her. I love Amamda Lee's stories but I HATE this Hollis narrator only use Eris, Ms. Lee. Eris is great at giving all characters a unique voice that is appropriate to their personality and sex. I will never buy another audible narrated by Hollis again. I will just read the book.

Worst narrator ever
Phenomenal book series. I switch between listening and reading certain books in this series to ensure I stay with the timeline. However, I’m having to ditch listening to book 8 because it IS NOT narrated by Aris. Whomever is narrating should stick to kids books with dopey donkeys and frogs. It’s worse than nails on a chalk board.

Disappointed
I really enjoyed books 1-3 & 4-6 but 7-9 started to become very stale. I hated the new reader on book 8, she spolied the vision I had created of the characters. Also, I became tired of the control the lead male has over the lead female, it didn't ring true, I would have kicked him out 3 books ago!
