Publisher's Summary

From the bestselling author of Dumped, Actually comes a hilarious, heartfelt story about marriage, divorce and what the hell happens next.

Amy and Joel’s honeymoon in the Maldives was the perfect week of love, sun, sex and a free minibar...but unfortunately, it was also the high point of a marriage that quickly descended into an absolute disaster zone.

Eight years on, they’re back in paradise, trying to recreate the magic with new partners. What a crying shame they’ve picked the same week to do it...

Trapped together on an island small enough to spit across with the wind behind you, Amy and Joel pick up right where they left off: at total loggerheads. And so begins a hideous week of rivalry, one-upmanship and score-settling—as each tries to prove they’ve now comprehensively won at life.

The thing is, hurt and pain are strongest where there was once love. And what if being back in this island paradise, with all its wonderful memories, sets sparks flying in more ways than one?

Love Nick

Did not care for these narrators, particularly the women. Falsely raising her voice throughout. Ugh

Skip the audio

I've enjoyed other books by this author & I'm a fan of Will Watt, but the female narrator is so ridiculously bad I skipped ahead to listen to the final 2 chapters to get the ending.
Her voice is very high pitched & strident at times with an odd cadence. Skip the audio & eyeball read it instead.

Hilarious!

Adult language and adult content, and absolutely hilarious for adults! Especially those who have been married. The ending was unexpected and sweet. The good guys win. And the person who was mean and self-serving was left all alone. If you’d like a light read that will have you chuckling every other minute, this one fits the bill perfectly.

A fun romp

A modern romantic comedy that has me laughing out loud from time to time. Great job of holding the edge of but falling to hard into slapstick, there are a few banana peels tossed on the deck for good measure. I'm not sure this style wouldn't get old, but it was a great break from more serious and intent literature and I'd try another title by the same author to test the waters of the author's genre. Note for the narrators the word JIBING is pronounced "JAI-bing", not JIBB-ing..

Ok for what it is

I found the characters unlikable (the voices were grating), the tropes tired and I saw the ending coming from miles away. But I still wanted to see how the author arrived at the conclusion. A pretty middling story.

This is one of Nick Spaldings best books! It’s totally loud out loud, with a storyline you’d never expect at the end..I highly recommend it with 5 plus ⭐️ across the board!

Keep on writing Nick! You make this former resident of 🇬🇧 miss home..Thank you!

Awful narration

This might be an odd review, I’m only a few chapters into the book but the woman narrating is making me want to tear my own ears off. I’m trying to listen past her voice to the content itself - it seems to be a fun, light book, just the ticket for a gloomy day, however the narrator is so unappealing I find myself not giving a stuff about the character she’s portraying. Therefore the story is ruined for me. I want to know what happens but I just can’t cope with the appalling performance!

Awful narration, irritating rather than humorous

I usually listen to audio book stories on the 40 minute journey home from work to help ne relax. This one simply wound me up. Oh the whining voices and the constant moaning! I stuck it for 2 hours and had to give up.

Appalling narration

I can’t imagine, when the author wrote this book, that the narrative voices of the two main characters were like this pair! One of those books that I wish I’d read rather than listened to. The female sounds like a whiny 1950s BBC newsreader and the guy is sooo affected. They both overact - I’m sure the book was intended for a much drier delivery. Narration completely spoils funny book.

Awful

Stupid story and irritating narration, especially the female. One of the rare times I request a refund.

Great!

After reading fat chance all those years ago I have become a fan of Nick Spalding books.
Although I find some of them not as good as others they all have similarities to lots of peoples real lives, so I am able to compare the characters to someone I know!
This book has definitely been One of my laugh out loud listens (audible), so if you liked or loved Fat Chance, Bricking It (look out for Pat the cow) and others you will enjoy this latest book.

Very Funny

This book has some real laugh out loud moments and is told as a funny story as the basis of the “will they won’t they get back together”. The only two issues are first the female narrators voice is terrible. You have to hear it to believe it! Secondly the end is all fine except ending up working for your ex wife’s boyfriend after the whole book about the main couples feelings? Nahh not likely. But put those small’ish items aside and I would recommend listening if you want a light hearted laugh.

I loved it.

I’m suffering from depression and I need to laugh. At first I thought this isn’t for me but I persevered. I am now going to look for another book by Nick Spaulding. I will get better one book at a time. Thank you Nick x

not good at all

Gave up half way.
The audible version makes your ears bleed, why on earth use this female narrator it's like nails on the blackboard.
Story is weak and tries to hard to be funny. But fails.

Hilarious!

Really enjoyed the humour, and the narrators captured the characters so well, I was in stitches at times!
