In this hilarious and heartfelt story from the bestselling author of Dry Hard, Will hasn’t seen his rock-star dad for thirty years. But now he’s back for an encore…

Will Fairweather is getting old. His back aches, his bowels misbehave if he eats spicy food and he’s completely lost his sense of rhythm. Life has taught him not to take risks, but even that hasn’t stopped his marriage hitting the rocks too. The last thing he needs is a surprise call from Red Fairweather, devil-may-care rock god—and the father Will hasn’t seen for thirty years.

If Will’s old before his time, Red’s the boy who won’t grow up.

When Will needs somewhere to live, with nowhere else to turn, he finds himself back with the hellraiser who deserted his family. As Will tries to come to terms with the downward spiral of his life, he starts to realise there’s more to Red than he thought—there’s a real human being under all that leather and attitude, a dad determined to make up for lost time and help his son get back on track.

Can Will make his peace with a father seeking forgiveness?

The messages, and heart Nick Spalding puts into his books is inspiring. Time to be more like Red.

Another hit.

I started out wanting to punch the main character, Will- which, I suppose, is entirely the point. I am 47, and here's this whiny twit complaining about being old at 45. But learning his reasons, and waiting him find his way, with the help of his forever young father, and long suffering wife was a hell of a story! I spent the last hour of the book very emotional - both in tears and laughing out loud! I highly recommend this- and all of Nick's books that I've read/ listened to so far.

So, so good!

I liked this ... Nick Spalding is always a fun listen. This one wasn't quite as laugh-out-loud as some of his others, this was a little more "ahhhhh" heartwarming! This narrator hasn't done a ton of work, but did a good job. Sounded similar to some of the other male narrators from other Spalding titles.

Just a little pet peeve on my part ... while I'm an audio gal, I almost always grab the Kindle copy too. It's frustrating when the Table of Contents between the two formats don't line up. The Audible TOC listed numerical chapters ... but the chapters weren't numbered, they had headers (all with a MUSIC theme). So if I was in the audio, and it said chapter 6, there's no "chapter 6" ... the sixth chapter, if I manually count them, is "Rhythm" ... why didn't the audio version use the headers to mark the chapters? If I was just listening and needed to go to a certain spot, I wouldn't remember a "chapter 6" being said to mark my place without looking at the Audible menu. Not sure who (author, editor, producer, Audible) makes those choices, but it can actually impact my enjoyment of a book ...

There were some funny spots but it was only heartfelt and mildly depressing to listen to during the day.

Absolute escapist fiction
The narration was great, characters well developed and who would’t want a llama named chunky lumps

Endearing

The description of the father and how he lived his life making everything worthwhile, entertaining I also like how the end ended

The story its self made me feel good some laughter. Well written a story I won’t soon forget.

As an only daughter I had little interest in reading a book about a father son relationship. But I decided to give it a try because I love this author so much. I am so glad I did. It tackles serious topics like again, depression, overcoming fear, regret about life choices, and the importance of forgiveness, all while including Nick Spaulding’s typical laugh out loud humor. It is a must read for anyone!

Humor, life lessons, and humor!

I thought Nick Spalding was a funny author…this book is NOT funny, or entertaining at all.

Not funny like his other books

I am disappointed. This book completely lacks the signature humor and cleverness Nick usually delivers. I was consistently bored and ultimately let down after looking forward to this book coming out.
