A Pony Express Romance

After growing up as an orphan, Josiah English wants nothing more than to have his own ranch and raise Arabian horses. Riding for the pony express seems like the ticket to his dream. And when he meets the stationmaster’s beautiful sister, it seems he may be within reach of the happy life he craves.

Mara Reid is thrilled to finally meet the man of her dreams, and the fact that they both want to raise horses in the Sweetwater River valley seems like confirmation straight from God.

But when the express shuts down and Mara's family home is in peril, the danger looming over Mara's life may not be half as destructive as that threatening her heart.

A Rocky Mountain Romance

The Wyoming mountain country seems like the perfect place for Zeche Reid to find himself. When a blizzard sends him scrambling for cover, he stumbles upon a lady and her professor father holed up in a remote cabin. His protective instincts won't let him desert them, especially when the father’s haunting memories from the war of secession put his daughter’s safety at risk.

Fighting her own nightmares after the war, Gretta Michelly is trying to settle into this rugged mountain land, but her bad memories are nothing compared to the demons that haunt her father. The haven they’ve found in these rocky mountains seems to be the solace he needs to find peace - until a mysterious sojourner appears on their cabin doorstep.

As Zeche is torn between his craving to protect Gretta and the awful realization that he’s the one putting her in more danger, he’s forced to make a difficult choice. Even at the cost of his heart.

A Sweetwater River Romance

Taking flight from their quiet Pennsylvania town seems like the only way for Tori Boyd to protect her dearest cousin’s virtue. And the success of their escape may now depend on the man she’s been writing letters to for over a year now in the vast wilds of the Wyoming territory.

Ezra Reid has finally stepped out from under the shadow of his older brother and sister, as the success or failure of the rocky ridge stage and telegraph contracts falls squarely on his shoulders. He's entirely focused on the work - at least until his mysterious correspondence partner shows up on his doorstep.

As Ezra takes on the search for a proper situation for Tori and her cousin, there seem to be no good options for the ladies. Especially since Tori won't even discuss the one option that might succeed - marriage. When the danger chasing the women takes on a form none of them anticipated, how far will Ezra have to go to keep the Tori and her cousin safe?

A Mountain Christmas Romance

Stripped of the family so important to his Viking heritage, Matthias Bjork is now on the hunt for his sister. Despite combing the entire Wyoming territory, he hasn’t found any substantial leads regarding his sister’s whereabouts....

Enjoyable

I enjoyed the story even if sometimes the characters annoyed me with their choices. I like the theme of trusting God in our lives.

Wonderful Box Set!

A Pony Express Romance
Josiah English works hard at his job as a Pony Express rider in order to make enough to fulfill his dream of owning his own ranch. When he meets Mara at his home station and begins to fall in love he feels like his dreams may finally be coming true. However as he discovers life isn’t quite that easy. When The Pony Express is shut down his confidence in himself wanes and he decides to leave to find work elsewhere. Unfortunately his leaving leaves Mara heartbroken and feeling betrayed. Mara and Josiah are separated for four years and it is inspiring to see how they turn to God for strength. When Josiah returns it takes awhile for Mara to trust in him again. I found this an interesting story and learned more about how life was for the riders of the Pony Express and those who manned the stations and trained and cared for the horses the Pony Express riders rode. It was a lovely love story and was real and believable. There were some unexpected twists in the story that kept it interesting as well.
A Rocky Mountain Romance
I really enjoyed this sweet romance between Zeche Reid and Gretta Michelly. Zeche decides that it is time for him to finally go off on his own to explore the Rocky Mountains while things are slow at the station. He stops at a cabin to take shelter during a blizzard where he meets Gretta and her father. The Michellys have moved to this lonely cabin in the mountains to find some peace. They are both haunted by memories of their time during the war, especially Antonio. Zeche comes to realize his presence is causing Antonio’s memories to come to the surface making his nightmares worsen and so Zeche decides to leave even though he is falling in love with Gretta. Unfortunately things don’t go well for him and he ends up back at the cabin under Gretta’s care. He once again leaves but again ends up at the cabin, however this time Gretta is the one needing help. The story has lots of ups and downs for this sweet couple and it is inspiring to see their faith in God help them through. I did feel like this story was left unfinished. It would have been nice to have an epilogue to see how their journey went and how they got settled afterwards. I am hoping that maybe their story will continue a bit in the next book. I was also disappointed that we didn’t get to hear much about how Josiah, Mara and Katie were doing from the previous story.
A Sweetwater River Romance
Ezra Reid and Tori Boyd became “pen pals” so to speak, but when Tori’s cousin Opal needed to escape a dangerous situation Tori takes her to Ezra’s Rocky Ridge Stage Stop. Needless to say Ezra is surprised to see Tori arrive at his station, with her cousin, telling him that they are looking for work in the area. Tori has had an abusive past and it is inspiring to hear how Ezra handles learning her story. He is such an amazing man. This is an emotional, beautiful story. This story dealt with a delicate subject in a very discreet manner. The way the author handled the relationship between Tori and Ezra was believable considering what Tori had gone through. I think this was my favorite book of the series so far. It was also nice to hear more about Mara, Josiah and Katie as well as Zeche and Gretta, though there is just a sentence or two about them.
A Mountain Christmas Romance
Opal Boyd has a happy life living and working for the sweet German couple who have come to mean so much to her. She is certainly not looking for a relationship with any man as, in her opinion, most men are not to be trusted, however when she meets Matthias Bjork she feels an attraction she can’t deny. Matthias is determined to try to stay clear of Opal because of the attraction he feels towards her. He is convinced that he is a magnet for trouble and doesn’t want her to get hurt. However God has plans for these two and we soon find out that they are in for a roller coaster ride of a lifetime! The story is filled with plenty of suspense and action as well as endearing moments and emotion. I really enjoyed this heartwarming story and especially loved the fact that the author included “Charmer” in the mix! My only disappointment was that the series seemed to end with no more knowledge of how Zeche and Gretta fared in their new life and how Antonio got along. We only got a sentence or so in the previous book when they arrived at Josiah and Mara’s ranch. Other than that I enjoyed the series and will likely be listening to it over again in the future. Paul Curtis always delivers these stories so skillfully that we are drawn into the story and time goes by before we know it. It is definitely a pleasure to sit and listen to his narration. He is definitely becoming one of my favorite narrators. I received a free copy of this audiobook and have voluntarily provided an unbiased review.

Characters have the worst self esteem & communication skills that it’s a wonder they survived in the “Wild West”

That said, I persisted in listening as it was a collection of four audio books that I wanted desperately to enjoy. I knew there would have to be a happy ending but I’m afraid that this gentleman narrator is not my choice & his tone is grating at times. I do love historical novels though and learned about the life of Pony Express riders, horse breeders, stage stop managers, telegraph communication and reliance on God…so all in all, it ended up well!
