Publisher's Summary

On February 29, 1948, Richard Wurmbrand was arrested by the secret police. His crimes? Leading Christian worship and witnessing - both of which were illegal under the atheistic Communist regime of Romania.

Richard spent 14 years in prison. He was tortured, beaten, and locked into a solitary confinement cell. Sabina Wurmbrand spent three years in a labor camp, nearly freezing to death as she and other prisoners worked on the Danube Canal. She was repeatedly told her husband had died behind bars.

But Richard and Sabina Wurmbrand had an unshakable faith in Christ. Neither of them gave up hope, and neither of them would stop talking about Jesus.

Now, for the first time, both sides of this amazing story are told in one audiobook. Wurmbrand tells of Richard and Sabina Wurmbrand, combining stories and research from the following books: The Pastor’s WifeIn God’s Underground, and Tortured for Christ. Your faith will be inspired as you go deep inside the darkest prison cells to see how the light of Christ continues to shine from the hearts of those totally committed to him.

glad to listen, it's a hard read

I have tried to read the book, but found it difficult because names of people and places were difficult for me. As an audio book I was able to concentrate on the message.

a feat of endurance rivaling that if Louis Zampari

I loved this book. A marvelous testimony to the truth of Christ's comfort in affliction. Wurmbrand had one advantage, a crucial advantage over Zamparini and that was the comfort and knowledge of Christ. The refining fire of discipline is everywhere apparent in this story. Wurmbrand was a faithful man taken captive and tortured and emerged a holy man molded into the powerful image of Christ. Beaten up but unbroken he was more to be feared by the communists than he was fearful. Amazing.

To suffer with Christ..

This book blew my mind. There is no way to express what this book stands for and how in the West we don't have any concept of it. We are weak Christians because of it. However I believe the tide is changing and America is going to collide with Communism. And here we will finally get a taste of what the Wurmbrands endured during a lifetime. To suffer for the sake of Christ is a privilege that we don't know yet. But we will. There are not enough words to express our shortcomings and the utter appreciation for the Wurmbrands and other millions of unnamed who suffered for Christ, and continue to, under Communism.

Michael Beck's narration is fantastic. It's absolutely riveting in making this story come alive. He brings the Wurmbrands's story to life.

SOOO SOOOOO GOOOD and CRUCIAL history

The amount of detailed suffering this book explains is graphic in some parts, but just enough to explain why communism is so horrific. This book should be required reading in all high schools throughout the world.

Don't read

This is NOT the VOM that I knew years ago. The original Tortured for Christ is written by Richard Wurmbrand. This new version is written without the permission of the Wurmbrands son, Michael Wurmbrand, and has been sensationalized for purposes opposite of what the ministry's focus was originally. Research it yourself.

Astounding

This book is written excellently and the reader does a very nice job in the reading and voice deflections.

The content of this book should be read or heard by every American and person worldwide that believes communism and socialism is not a bad idea and practice for society.

A society without God and the influence of the love of Christ is a wicked and terrifying place to live indeed. Without turning to God, this is the direction our world is headed…. A Godless and wicked people.

Deeply affecting martyr account

Beautifully written, very sad to think he had to endure such hardship at the hands of his communist captors. Inspiring for any Christian, a very satisfying read.

Unwavering faith

Heart touching story. It dries up all excuse for now preaching the gospel and reflecting the love of Christ to the dying world. If someone who went through this kind of torture still preached in and out of prison, do I have any excuse?

Worth the listen

Difficult to listen how people can suffer so much at the hands of other people but it is a timely reminder not to put our faith in the government but in God. So many words of wisdom are found in this book. The narrator does a good job
