The Short Studies in Biblical Theology series is designed to help listeners see the whole Bible as a unified story - culminating in Jesus. Insightful, accessible, and practical, these books are perfect for listeners looking for bite-sized introductions to major subjects in biblical theology. The third volume in the series, Work and Our Labor in the Lord, explores how work fits into the framework of the whole Bible - looking at the original creation purpose for work, how it was affected by the fall, and the hope for lasting good offered to all who toil and labor in the Lord today.

This book was a solid discussion of what the Bible says about the topic of work throughout the history of man. Beginning with the perfect world before fall of man into sin, the author compares how the nature of work has changed as mankind went from perfect workers to sinful workers, and then again to redeemed workers in a sinful world. He finishes with a look at what glimpses we have of work in a restored world for all eternity.
All of that is well and good, but the whole thing seemed so unexciting that I almost didn’t finish the book. Maybe it was the narrator. I felt like I was listening to a sermon that seems to go on a little too long causing me to check my watch repeatedly.
The message of the book gets five stars, but it should be made more attractive to readers and listeners.

Good, not great.

Deep but very good if you like Biblical theology.
I have a couple more works by author I’m ready to jump into now.

Deep but very good

The author spent a ton of time just summarizing Old Testament stories and saying very little about work. I was also disappointed how little he discussed rest and the balance between work and rest.

I was hoping for more…
