Find out how the "Delta Dash" and artificial insemination from a dog who lived in Canada made their breeding in Georgia possible. Laugh along with breeders George and Alice and their friends through the hilarious naming process. Learn along with them about canine medical problems they had never heard of. Empathize with responsible breeders when despite their efforts nature does not cooperate. Sympathize with prayers for the pups' survival when life-threatening medical conditions strike, and feel the tension when unconventional medical treatments offer the only hope.
Cheer when the pick of the litter struts at her first dog shows. Smile at the dogs' sheep herding efforts, and their owners' efforts to get their beautiful puppies' ears up and perfect. Cry over the inevitable tragedies that come with breeding a litter of puppies, keeping and loving four of them, and eventually having to say goodbye. Not a dog person but the narration carries it
I'm giving this one the benefit of the doubt because I'm not a dog person. I had a real hard time sympathizing with the author. That said I thought Kristin James carried the book. She sounded so authentic that I listened through the whole thing. She cared so I cared—and that says something.
Also the book has the best gritty noir quote not actually found in a gritty noir novel.
