Publisher's summary

Calista Anderson is a young Boston-based romance author with three best-selling novels and countless well-received short stories and magazine articles on her resume. For the first time in a decade of writing, Callie is blocked and running late on a deadline for her fourth book. In an effort to break the ties holding Callie's creative mojo hostage, her editor Jane Paget decides to send Callie into exile on the island of Martha's Vineyard, far away from the city distractions of Boston, to work through her block. Reluctantly, Callie accepts her editor's isolation sentence and packs her bags to spend the winter on the Vineyard.

Soon after arriving at the tiny, idyllic island community, Callie meets Jackson Brody, her handsome and intriguing new neighbor whose obvious attraction to Callie proves to be her biggest distraction of all. Island living - and Jack - quickly grow on Callie, and the winter never felt so hot. Will Jack be the muse Callie needs to break through her writer's block, or will he prove to be too much man for her to handle? Spend a Vineyard winter with Callie and experience the island through her eyes and her budding self-discovery as she explores the possibilities of a future with Jack. Be witness to her pitfalls and celebrations as she creates her next best-selling novel. You will enjoy her story...without a doubt.

DNF

The narration was done really well. I could tell the difference between characters with the wat the narrator changed their pitch/tone. I'd listen to them in the future. However, I couldn't finish this book. There are spoilers in this review, so only continue reading if you don't mind them.

This story glorified s3xual a$$ault.
Jack takes Callie to his plot of land. He puts his hand down her pants (this was after she told him many times she didn't want to rush things) Callie grabbed his wrist to stop him, and does NOT consent. He pauses, but then continues anyway.
He also tells her a few times that he won't rush her, and that he can wait, but then he tries to feel her up/take her clothes off, or sleep with her every chance he gets, and this is supposed to be sweet? No, it's not.
I just couldn't continue after that.
Oh, and it's NOT ok to chain your dog up outside, then go out for a drink with friends. Just no. 😡 If this character was a 'villain', then I could accept that in the story, but definitely not when it's the supposed 'hero.'

violence is NEVER okay

I don't fault Jack 's wild phase after his ex wife's betrayal. It seemed natural and helped him heal.
Liz and Alex were disgusting with their manipulation interference, and immature games to tie Jack up. Callie was immature for so much of the story and angered me with many of her actions and made me not like her. I was incensed and appalled that the author thought it was okay to have Callie try to strike Jack twice. Violence is NEVER okay, not for women or men, and this lowered my respect for the author to do that. I would think long and hard before reading anymore from this author because of the unnecessary physical violence. There are other ways to get a point across!!! I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this and am giving an honest review. The narrator was okay.
