After Jamie Brackton’s rescue by the pirate Bonty Labelle, (See Comes the Highwayman, 2020) Jamie convinces Bonty to end his pirating ways and instead smuggle guns to the Americans during the war of 1812. Alas, unable to escape his past Bonty soon finds himself locked in a cell in Savannah, Georgia.
His captor, an American Naval Officer, tells Bonty and Jamie that unless they help in locating the lost daughter of Vice President Aaron Burr, Theodosia Burr Alston, they will hang Bonty for his past crimes as a pirate.
It seems that In January of 1812, a small schooner departed Charleston, South Carolina carrying Theodosia to meet her father in New York. The ship never reached its destination. The fate of its crew and passengers remained unknown. It is up to Jamie and his crew to locate her.
Jamie ventures forth aboard the Jaded Dolphin, battling mutiny, hurricanes, and other pirates, in his quest to rescue the young woman. She is believed to be held captive on Gooney Cay, an island in the Caribbean, inhabited by retired pirates and castaways. Jamie must race against the clock, and unfavorable odds to bring back Theodosia Burr Alston and rescue his friend Bonty Labelle from the gallows.
