Publisher's Summary

From the moment Roan Taggart picked up the pretty redhead at the Jackson Hole airport, his training and experience told him she was spooked. She's left New York City to visit the Wind River Ranch, where Roan is a wrangler, and just as he can pick up a horse's mood, he can feel the tension coming off her body. And that vulnerability is triggering all his protective instincts.

Shiloh Gallagher likes the gray-eyed cowboy's dry humor - and the Special Forces background that lends him a stoic, powerful presence. But she's been scarred by trauma and her mother's murder and knows a strong man can be dangerous. She came to wide-open Wyoming to flee a threat that's left her unable to write her novels. Now, as she rides horses with Roan and helps him build an isolated cabin, she's slowly letting down her guard. But danger has followed her west, and they won't have a future together unless they defeat a killer from her past.

Awful!!!

First chapter, I thought "this should be pretty good." By the 4th chapter, I was ready to strangle something!! How many times did the author have to repeat the same things over and over. How many times does the cowboy and the main lady have to go over how he smells, how she tastes, over and over,,,,. I thought the third chapter would never end!!! I skimmed over the next 6 chapters, and listened to the 10th where the story line started and the awful supposedly romantic stuff ended for a little bit. This story was supposedly about a terrorized woman trying to escape a stalker. I'm on chapter 12 and I honestly don't think I can handle anymore of this mush!!! Rarely do I not finish a book, reading it or audible, but I'm about to pull the plug on this one.
I love Johanna Parker and she is awesome as usual as an auditor, but the book is too heavy on unbelievable mushy crap and not enough about the actual story line.

Don’t waist your time!

This has to be the worst book I have ever listened to. The story could have been very good but it was so drawn out it was boring. “Black Ops” was said so many times it was ridiculous! Don’t waist your time !

Wrangler with military edge? No.

I was disappointed with several issues. Editing should have caught all the repetition throughout the novel. Characters weren’t as “fleshed out” as in other McKenna’s works. Felt a little empty. Areas that should have been “more real” were left flat. Too much emphasis was mentioned on the “Black Ops” background that really didn’t fit with issues. Not her best work.

Not quite out of the ballpark

Good story, but parts were repetitive, like the reader could t remember details. The narrator got “breathy” where a straight voice would have been more interesting. The hero was “perfect”. Then again it is a romance with a HEA.

ugh but the story

the story line was good but so wordy. the writer used incorrect words and constantly repeated herself. at one point she made the heroine seem like an idiot. couldn't get past ch 11. the narrator whispers her dialogue and puts me to sleep.

Not an action story

I selected this title because I thought it might have an action story as a component of the romance. Don't be fooled. Chapters and chapters of emotional angst. While the hero is described as a "black ops operator" every other paragraph (until you want to gag), in the end it proves to be completely irrelevant to the story. The author gives a disingenuous endorsement to rural life and the military to try and sell the story. In essence it's a thinly disguised anti-gun missive.
