Publisher's summary

His Eyes Were As Commanding As His Mouth...

When I met him, he was just a gray-eyed stranger behind a mask. He turned my head when no one else did, and he upped the ante by showing me what I'd been missing when our tongues met for the first time.

When I got to know him, he was still a stranger on the other end of the phone. He made my toes curl and my knees weak with his dirty words and dirtier suggestions. I was his wild ace, and he knew how to play me just right so that we both won.

But when the masks fell off and we finally put all our cards on the table, I had to decide if I'd fold — or go all in.

Wild Aces is a standalone erotic novel. If you enjoyed Brea from the Unblocked Collection, this is her story.

Ok story

The storyline was ok. The abuse factor was tough. Jacob Morgan is great narrator. I have issue with muffy newtown. Her voice is pleasant enough, however, she does this breath thing after every sentence. It was annoying and detracted from the book.

Its still Human Trafficking

The narrators did an outstanding job, and they are two of my favorites... let me just say that first. However It is my biggest pet peeve when adoption is used as a device in a book incorrectly.
The plot in this book incorporates human trafficking.
First, black-market adoption isn't adoption... its called human trafficking.
If your meeting in a back room and handing over cash and you get handed a baby in exchange... its human trafficking.
If you're showing up in a lawyers office, handing over cash and getting a baby in exchange.... its human trafficking.
I don't care how nice you are, what a good person you, or how well you mean.... its human trafficking.

I tried really hard to like this book but as an adoptee activist and adoption reform advocate.... I cannot let this go. Another item of concern that keeps reappearing in books, and makes an appearance in this book... is this notion that it 's OK to keep adoption from a child until they feel the child is 'old enough' to handle it. Its an inaccurate myth that keeps getting retold. For the best psychological outcome children need to know they are adopted before the age of 3 (Montclair State University study, 2019) found that for every year past age 3 when an adoptee is told about their adoption, an increase psychological distress and feelings of anger, betrayal, depression, and anxiety occur.

Was a good listen

Enjoyed the narrators on this book.
This was good listen, kept me engaged, and was the first book I've listened to by Author Marni Mann.
The overall story got 3 Star because of a small hole in the plot that kept nagging at me the last half of the book. I would recommend it for romance fans.
*Beware it does talk about Child Abuse in case that is a trigger for someone.

One of the most lopsided stories I’ve listened to.

Sigh. This was a soap opera. An unnecessary soap opera. You have some really dramatic arcs in the story then you have some that you just want to fast forward through (which I did). Brea is annoying. She doesn’t want to have anything explained because the story doesn’t have time for her to have it explained. So when two chapters have gone by suddenly everything that she was mad about is explained and she suddenly not mad anymore.

Trapper (really with that name) is what this story is about. His opening at the start was immensely compelling. Then instead of the story keeping to high level drama, you get a lot of trash and filler.

The narration was some of the best I’ve heard on these stories. Though the performance of Brea was a bit too breathy for me. I don’t know why Brea was in the story as much as she was when the story was not equally between both characters. Also all the love scenes were only told from her POV. That was odd.

I’d follow a story on Trapper because he’s interesting but could care less about the love scenes. Too bad this was listed as a romance book because the love scenes didn’t fit the tone of the story at all.

~~~~~~~~A W E S O M E~~~~~~~~~~
This Author and Narrators was a first for me but absolutely will not be the last. This story was an absolute solid 5 star listen. I will not give any story away but just know that it has all the emotions and feels I could ask for!! Plus a stellar performance that gives a edge of your seat, can't stop listing, power punch of sex, lies, suspense,laughter, tears and a well deserved and fabulously written HEA. Marni Mann just went to my top 5 authors to follow!! So worth a credit or coin, looking forward to more!!!
Better than Unblocked
The big reveal was not at all what I was expecting and the delving into the mystery of everything was captivating.
Emotionally charged and so very heartfelt
I absolutely loved this story and audio performance. It was such an original story and I loved the journey that Brea and Trapper endured. It was one that was destined to be.
Zachary Webber gives an emotional performance that once again played out like a movie as I listened. Muffy Newtown - I think this was one of my favorites portrayed by her.
Highly recommend!!
Love this.
Narration:
Jacob Morgan is one of my favorite narrators. I like how he brings the characters to life and their emotions come through, and he sounds like honey lol ;)
Muffy is good too, although she tends to sound choked up and out of breath like she is nervous or about to cry a lot. When she's being side characters(Mom, BFF etc) it's not so noticeable. She is still a really good narrator.
The story is really good and I wish it was longer or had a part 2 with these characters only because I'm greedy like that when I find a storyline I like. I saw that this goes with the book Unblocked, which I also have in my library and will be listening to now, but I thought this was a stand-alone(maybe a mistake on my part) but now I'm thinking this is #2. I would suggest that one first if you are planning on them both.
SEEING DOUBLE👻👻👻👻👻👻
The narrators did an excellent job on this book, but I didn't like how the heroine would get upset with the hero, and wouldn't let him explain/defend himself. She was a little too mean to him for me. WARNING! The beginning of the book was hard for me to listen/deal with abuse isn't easy for anyone to deal with, but I think that it's hardest for children who are in that situation.
Too far fetched!
Having really loved Unblocked,  I'm afraid that this didn't do it for me. It didn't have the same feels at all!
I really disliked the abuse aspect and throughout the book I was worried about Trapper' s shady business dealings.
Trapper's had terrible childhood abuse and surviving against all odds, he now makes his way in the world as a professional poker player.
Brea is a very superficial character and is finding it hard getting over the loss of her long term lover, Cody. I did, however, feel for her when Trapper's real identity was revealed, which was a complete shock!
I loved how they first met but didn't feel invested in their partnership and when all the loose ends came together, I felt it was rather far fetched that everyone would play happy families!
Jacob Morgan is always delicious but Muffy Newton's breathy narration drove me nuts.
SUPERB
I had this little gem hiding in amongst my audiobooks that I had bought and for some reason had forgotten I'd bought it. Going through some time later I found it, downloaded it and couldn't stop listening. From start to finish this book doesn't pull any punches, I loved every word. It's full of everything you could want for a story to really pull at your heartstrings, to give you everything you want and more. The narration is top notch, couldn't fault it, as they say brought the book to life but with talented narration it truly does. Let's not forget the wise author who wrote this beautiful love story. I sobbed at the gravestone scene but it was written so well you can smile too. There are some genius twists in this book that only ramps up the whole story and brings it to a wonderful HEA....SUPERB!!!!😍😍😍😍😍
Mann, A Good Read !
I've not read this Author's work before, but will definitely be reading more. This was a good story with a thought provoking storyline. I just felt the female character was a little weak and could have been developed a little more.
Thumbs up for Jason Morgan's performance.
