Publisher's Summary

In the second pulse-pounding novel in the USA Today best-selling Heirs of Chicagoland series, vampire Elisa Sullivan gets drawn into the shifting sands of pack politics.

Vampires were made, not born - until Elisa Sullivan came along. As the only vampire child in existence, she grew up with a heavy legacy, and tried to flee her past. Then circumstances drew her back to Chicago, and she stayed to keep it safe. With shifter Connor Keene, the only son of Pack Apex Gabriel Keene, at her side, she faced down a supernatural evil that threatened to destroy Chicago forever.

After the dust from the attack has settled, Elisa is surprised when Connor invites her to a usually private Pack event in the north woods of Minnesota, and by the warm welcome she receives from some of Connor's family, even though she's a vampire. But the peace doesn't last. The shifters tell tales of a monster in the woods, and when the celebration is marred by death, Elisa and Connor find themselves in the middle of a struggle for control that forces Elisa to face her true self - fangs and all.

A new take on Vampires and Shape Shifters

This story is one of the best stories I have listened to in a while. Chloe does an excelleni job writing this series.
It’s an interesting switch of roles between Conner and Ellis. Chloe has a great sense of humor.

Excellent read.

I am all into this series

I guess I should start off by saying possible SPOILER ALERTS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Connor invites Elisa to a shifter initiation that should be a straight forward event right ? Wrong ! Along the way they discover each other more as Elisa is introduced to the inner workings of shifter clans and politics. The relationship between Connor and Elisa is growing as well as the beast within Elisa. They discover that all is not as it seems within the Clan. The death of a young shifter female and rumors about a beast that is stalking the territory has all members of the clan on edge. Connor and Elisa run smack into a schism within the clan between the elders and the younger members. As Connor and Elisa investigate they find themselves on a path of lies and ultimate abuse of power with the clan . Not to mention the obstacles thrown in their path especially one by the name of Miranda along with the clan Elders. Events come to a head as Elisa is forced to make a decision that she can never undo and the clan may never forgive or accept. As Connor tries to defend Elisa he is becomes bound to this clan and placed in a position that secrets will be revealed. I love this series and can't wait for the next book. I definitely would recommend this series to anyone who loves vampires and shifters and the other paranormals in between. The narrator was very good. I usually buy the book and get the audio version so that I don't have to miss a thing. I have to admit that this time I only read a few pages and just listened to narrator wrap me up in this awesome story.

Fantastic Story!!

I've loved every book that I've read by Chloe Neill, so I may be a bit biased.
This book was better than the first! I love the chemistry between Connor and Elisa. Chloe, as always, does a great job with character and story development. Suzanne Elise Freeman is definitely one of my favorite narrators! She always brings the characters to life and never sounds dull or monotone like some other narrators I've heard recently. I hope this series continues and that Suzanne keeps narrating the whole series!

Conner and Elisa are almost there

These two kids are growing up and learning they are the perfect compliments to each other. Just like all of the Chicagoland books this is a story you don't want to stop listening to. What's next as for the prince and princess as they learn to deal with the politics and people from both groups.

Gah! I need more!

Elisa Sullivan + Connor Keen = Hot Bad arsed warriors

This book has taken it up a level. New heights, new ideas and a whole mess of crazy! These two people, one a born vampire in a world of made vampires and the next apex to the shifters make a powerful team. A team not everyone around them is happy about.

Wolves become uninvolved, set on their own path in a pack that’s on their own. Set off in the woods led by a trio of elders. The leadership is at best questionable. The younger members of the pack are in a stand off with the older members. It’s just a dice roll away from becoming mass chaos. Though they try to hide that from their new guests, Conner and Elisa.

That’s not the worst part... nope. A monster has set loose in the woods and people start to die. It takes a lot to kill a shifter.... It seems that it’s up to Conner and Elisa to figure out who is doing this and why. There has to be a reason. Wolves know they aren’t to do things that bring them unwanted attention from the humans. These attacks must be something else, something sinister.

It’s a race against time to find out what’s in the kids, who is causing upheaval in the pack and how to stop it all before another body falls.

Can’t wait for the next one

I have read the entire series and love the spin off. It reminds me of watching The Originals and now watching Legacies on The CW.
