“An ingeniously dark comic thriller about greed, gluttony, and murder that is destined for the big screen.” (Best Thrillers)

Aimee Trapnell reluctantly leaves her apartment on Manhattan’s Central Park West to return to her childhood home in Georgia for her father’s 90th birthday. Also on hand are her two brothers, wily Marsh and ne’er-do-well Trainor. With a 40 billion dollar inheritance at stake, they’re willing to do whatever it takes to make the old man happy.

To their shock they learn that what their father wants for his birthday is to kill someone. He doesn’t care who it is. He just wants to know what it’s like to commit murder.

Betrayal, double-dealing, and fast-paced action set the Trapnells on a collision course with an unexpected villain. Their journey takes them from the swamps of Georgia, to Italy’s glittering Amalfi coast, to rugged Yellowstone National Park.

When the narrator began speaking, I was very put off by the pumped up enthusiasm and energy with which he spoke. The cadence was odd also. Where there should have been periods at the ends of sentences there were commas or even question marks. I thought I wouldn’t listen to this odd treatment of the text for long. But I got caught up in the story, which was really pretty good. Finally, I settled into Mr. Greene’s reading. I enjoyed the book quite a bit. I’d be open to hearing another of Ms Hand’s books read by Mr. Greene in his curious style.

At once odd and enjoyable

It's possible that this book gets better farther in, but the first three chapters were just tedious, and the narration made it worse. I gave up on it, and so I don''t recommend it.

Couldn't get past the third chapter
