In Where the Drowned Girls Go, the next addition to Seanan McGuire's beloved Wayward Children series, students at an anti-magical school rebel against the oppressive faculty.

"Welcome to the Whitethorn Institute. The first step is always admitting you need help, and you’ve already taken that step by requesting a transfer into our company."

There is another school for children who fall through doors and fall back out again.

It isn't as friendly as Eleanor West's Home for Wayward Children.

And it isn't as safe.

When Eleanor West decided to open her school, her sanctuary, her "Home for Wayward Children", she knew from the beginning that there would be children she couldn’t save; when Cora decides she needs a different direction, a different fate, a different prophecy, Miss West reluctantly agrees to transfer her to the other school, where things are run very differently by Whitethorn, the Headmaster.

She will soon discover that not all doors are welcoming....

This installment is the exact reason I keep coming back to this series. The world building is a joy and I'm continually finding myself swimming in new thoughts about the functionality of fairy lands and what it means to be a hero.
I loved this one.

One of the most enchanting

This series has always felt approachable from any angle. When I recommend it, I stress that the reading order isn’t set in stone. That being said, when I read ‘Across the Green Grass Fields’ I felt disconnected; it didn’t tie into the other Wayward Children stories as previous books had. Now, I’m so glad for that book! This volume wouldn’t have been possible without that foundation. This one truly brings all the previous works together! Seanan McGuire is a genius and I can’t wait to read whatever comes next.

Exhilarating! Really Brings the Series Together

I thoroughly enjoy the fact that The Wayward Children books can be read as standalone stories or in order. I am currently rereading the series and still love it so much.

I love the way Seanan connects the stories

I love the universe McGuire has built and this story had great potential. It just too long to past the cruelty of the school to understand what was happening. Once we got the reveal, the book ended abruptly. Unlike the rest of the books in the series, we never got the magical adventure that has made the stories so wonderful.

I would still buy the book again because McGuire knows how to write characters.

Great universe, but slow pacing

Storybook, weird, fairytales and I really love the world! Short and sweet! Audiobook is amazing too! Would recommend!

In a world where you can’t be what you want to be or hated and bullied because of what you are is a world where I don’t want to live and the feeling is mutual for the kids at Wayward School. This book is a story of a young girl, Cora, who just wants to get rid of the evil voices in her head. Cora decides to go to the sister school where headmaster Whitehorn runs things very differently, to try and help her. Realizing she made a big mistake, it seems to be too late and now nobody can leave. Things are getting worse and she needs to be the hero. This is an amazing story! I love it!

Beat the patriarchy! Yeah!

I only wish it was longer. Absolutely worth the listen, and I pray there's another book on its way.

Love this series

like all books in this series, I love this book so much. and having a whole story with just Cora was amazing. she's the perfect pov, clear minded, strong willed and an absolute hero. and she's fat, like me! fat and athletic!
but joining her mind, hearing the cruelty from in the outside echoing inside was hard. worth it but hard.
no. my own complaint is how the narrator does Sumi's voice. she should have been bright and sharp, like the tip if a sucked on candy cane. instead the reader has her slow and dull. there's not manic glee in sumi, or viciousness.

too close to home,
