Exciting, interesting, thrilling, and crazy. I had a great time with this book. The less you know going in, the better. I had no idea where this story was going.

Not for the faint of heart

I love the visceral descriptions and the surprise twists and turns. just when you thought the story was over (or how it could possibly last longer), it would take a left turn into the unexpected. I loved that. fantastic writing. Just be sure you're ready for some very....descriptive...violence. My favorite parts are the eerie beauty of descriptions that I shouldn't enjoy, but really really do. Had me sitting in the car a little longer than I should before going to work to listen.

So so good

This book takes the cake as my favorite Nat Cassidy book, so far at least. I related to the themes and characters so much it was almost painful 😅. With fear behind every corner, this book has a great way of making you feel an almost claustrophobic sense of dread.

Smart thriller, with lots of twists

Very good, a must read. Smart, scary and thought provoking. I loved all of it, pretty rare, but I loved all of this, even the after word… good work, I can’t wait to read more

Butts and Gin Rummy

This book was absolutely brilliant. It was terrifying, anxiety inducing, relatable, gut punching, effin hilarious, enraging and just…wow.

I honestly did not expect this book to go all the different ways it did. Not once did I feel like it was rushed. In fact, Nat Cassidy makes sure to remind you that it’s “only been hours”.

I’ve only felt this strong of a love towards characters twice before. Dennis and Myrtle. May seem odd but - they were so very strong. I feel this way about Jess and Kiddo. How resilient she made herself to protect this strange little boy. How this strange little boy just wants to be good and not afraid. To be safe and make people proud. It was incredible how Jess just knew it was “the right thing” to do. To keep kiddo safe. Even if that voice may be screaming otherwise. That is one other thing I loved about this book. Jess’s inner voice. The ability to write how on the outside it’s dandelions and sugar drops but really, it is hellfire and fear. That balance between the two. The want and need to protect tend to outweigh those feelings even if will harm you. It’s interesting really. To want to help someone, a stranger, to try your best to ensure their safety, is rare these days. Nevermind to put their safety before your own. People think they’d put themselves in front of danger to protect a kid or someone in need, but really, it doesn’t happen as much as it should. Another thing; It is absolutely terrifying to think that your thoughts could become “real”. Not powerful or exciting. Down right effin scary.

Anyways, I’m rambling. This book was written beautifully. Go in it as blind as you can. Also, I am totally going challenge my Dad to gin rummy (which we haven’t played in decades) next time I see him. So thank you for that.
