Taking us from the suburbs of Western Sydney and Australia's military army bases, to the battlefields of Afghanistan and Iraq, this is a remarkable audiobook that reveals the as-yet untold story of the battle for Mosul and the secret involvement of Australians on both sides of the war - both our commandos and Australian ISIS fighters. Mosul details the rise of ISIS influence in Australia, the Iran and Australia allegiance to fight Daesh and shows what led up to the battle and the ramifications that are still being felt at home - by our soldiers and the victims of that war.

Da Nang Diary is the story of how, in Vietnam, an elite group of Air Force pilots fought a secret air war in Cessna 0-2 and OV-10 Bronco prop planes - flying as low as they could get. The eyes and ears of the fast-moving jets who rained death and destruction down on enemy positions, the forward air controller made an art form out of an air strike - knowing the targets, knowing where friendly troops were, and reacting with split-second, life-and-death decisions as a battle unfolded.

When the 2nd Battalion of the 3rd Marine Regiment ("2/3") arrived in the little-known "Haditha Triad" region of western Iraq's Al Anbar Province in September of 2006, the region exploded in a storm of terrorist violence. The most battle-hardened of Al Qaeda had fled to the Triad, and, taking their last, desperate gasps for survival after years of bloody war, lashed out at the battalion with everything they could muster.

This force, built around the 4th Infantry Division, would, in partnership with Kurdish forces and with the assistance of Turkey, engage Saddam's army in the North as part of a coming invasion. Faddis expected to be on the ground in Iraq within weeks, the entire campaign likely to be over by summer. The 4th Infantry Division never arrived, nor did any other conventional forces in substantial number.

Ben Timberlake has spent a lifetime in pursuit of the ultimate rush. This is an account of his near-execution in wartime Yugoslavia, his time in the SAS, combat in Iraq, encounters with a gambling-obsessed 9/11 hijacker, veterans blissed out on MDMA, as well as exploring hook-ups in the world of extreme sex and battling a heroin habit on a remote Scottish island. In this pilgrimage on the road of excess Ben looks at the social, biological, religious and personal factors that drive people to the edge and has a whole lot of fun along the way.

As a senior non-commissioned officer of Delta Force, the most elite and secretive special operations unit in the US military, Command Sergeant Major Tom Satterly fought some of this country's most fearsome enemies. Tom is a legend even among other Tier One special operators. Yet the enemy that cost him three marriages, and ruined his health physically and psychologically, existed in his brain. Told through Satterly's firsthand experiences, it also weaves in the reasons for his career-long battle against the most insidious enemy of all: post-traumatic stress.

Story
In late June, 2005, media sources recounted the tragic story of 19 US special-operations personnel who died at the hands of insurgent/terrorist leader Ahmad Shah - and the lone survivor of Shah's ambush - deep in the Hindu Kush Mountains of Afghanistan. The harrowing events of Operation Red Wings marked an important - yet widely misreported - chapter in the Global War on Terror, the full details of which the public burned to learn. Victory Point reveals the complete, as-yet untold story of Operation Red Wings and the follow-on mission, Operation Whalers.

Publisher's Summary
These are the combat experiences of the first Marine to command a special operations task force, recounted against a backdrop of his journey from raw Second Lieutenant to seasoned Colonel and Task Force Commander; from leading Marines through the streets of Mogadishu, Baghdad, Fallujah and Mosul to directing multi-national special operations forces in a dauntingly complex fight against a formidable foe.
The journey culminates in the story’s centerpiece: the fight against ISIS, in which the author is able to use the lessons of his harsh apprenticeship to lead the SOF task force under his command to hasten the Caliphate’s eventual demise.
Milburn has an unusual background for a US Marine, and this is no ordinary war memoir. Very few personal accounts of war cover such a wide breadth of experience, or with so discerning a perspective. As Bing West comments: “His exceptional skill is telling each story of battle and then knitting them into a coherent whole. By the end of the book, the reader understands what happened on the ground in the wars against terrorists over the past twenty years.”
Milburn tells his extraordinary story with self-effacing candor, describing openly his personal struggles with the isolation of command, post-combat trauma and family tragedy. And with the skill and insight of a natural story teller, he makes the reader experience what it’s like to lead those who fight America’s wars.

One of the very best books I’ve read in any genre.
An incredible story, incredibly well written. Col. Milburn takes the reader on a life and death adventure, replete with plenty of laughs to balance the weightier moments, and brings the reader back home with his humanity intact and enriched by the experience. It’s entertainment for the thrill-seeker, a first-hand account for the history buff, and a salve to the soul for anyone who’s worn the uniform.
I had the pleasure of serving in Col. Milburn’s command during the tour to Karma, Iraq.

We need more officers like Col. Milburn
Excellently written, this account is a fine example of the challenges facing a battlefield commander in 21st century combat. With the increasing complexity of modern warfare, the necessity for our combat leaders to possess the abilities for critical thought, the pragmatism to recognize poor strategy from those not involved in the mission, and the courage to “make the call” is exemplified throughout this memoir. Thank you for your service Colonel, and congratulations on one hell of a career. Enjoy retirement!

Awesome memoir of a true Patriot. The sacrifices a Marine faces during war is evident in this book. I am honored to have served with Col. Milburn in WNPS Co 2/9, Anti Armor platoon in Mogadishu when he was a LT. Thank you and great to hear that voice again. Your dedication to our Corps, country and your family is more than noteworthy. Brought back memories...
Having served under Col Milburn several years ago, I was never aware of his rich background. Hearing his stories brought me back to some of my best times deployed forward to Iraq and even brought some closure and healing knowing we all share similar experiences from serving there. Not to mention, if you want an accurate and unfiltered view into a Marine’s mind, this is it. Highly recommend this book for those who want to reminisce and for family members of veterans who want to better understand their veteran’s experiences. You inspire me sir!

Awesome Story Brilliantly Narrated by The Author
An unlikely tale of how a British traveler ended up a United States Marine Corps private and then involved decades of historical events. From a raw recruit to senior officer.
Milburn's pre law background may not have prepared him to be a Marine private but it provided a great foundation for an author and a leader.
From the broiled chaotic streets of Mogadishu to Baghdad and beyond Milburn's rise from Private E-1 to senior leaderships illustrates the near unique meritocracy of the United States Marines. Woven into the story are many family challenges for both Milburn and his fellow Marines.
The narration is rich and adds to the pleasure of the work.
