6th April, 1994: In the skies above Rwanda the president's plane is shot down in flames. The mass slaughter that follows is one of the bloodiest chapters in history. Twenty years on, BBC Newsnight producer David Belton, one of the first journalists into Rwanda, tells of the horrors he experienced. He revisits a country still marked with blood, in search of those who survived and the legacy of those who did not.

Critic reviews

"Belton excavates the truth... to produce a book that is both illuminating and profoundly moving" ( Independent)
"Brings the story right up to date, confronting the dilemmas and tensions that lie not far below the surface... Elegantly written" ( Observer)

This story was a remarkable overview of the plight of people during the Genocide. The authors insights to a horrific period give a view of how individuals were caught up in the struggles by conveying not only their experiences but also their thoughts about their dire situation. I have been to Rwanda, heard many versions of the genocide but this story has given me further insights. The key people in the story are described in great depth and with sensitivity. It captures the realities of people's lives based on the authors experiences as a journalist.
