Publisher's summary

A Chronicles of St Mary's short story that is sure to entertain. If you love Jasper Fforde or Ben Aaronovitch, you won't be able to resist Jodi Taylor.

Includes bonus St Mary's escapades 'Desiccated Water' and 'Markham and the Anal Probing' - never before heard in audio - and original introductions read by the author herself.

'Max, your father is here. He's come to take Matthew away.'

Have you ever wondered what would happen if Max's husband met Max's father? What would Leon do?

They're normally a fairly amiable bunch, but this is the story of what to expect if St Mary's doesn't like someone. As in, really doesn't like someone. Warning: contains a unit-wide criminal enterprise, a great deal of illegal activity and a sad misuse of public resources. All the things a father will do to protect his family.

It is also a story of revenge. Because this is payback - St Mary's style.

Bonus stories

'Desiccated Water' - Professor Rapson breaks astonishing new ground with his latest feat of scientific invention.

'Markham and the Anal Probing' - when Markham disappears in the middle of nowhere, Max jumps to the only logical conclusion: alien abduction.

You are not alone

This is one of my favorite stories, it really gives me a sense of what everyone should have in their lives. Friends that will at the drop of a hat stop everything to help a friend in trouble. Narration as always is great.

Fun short stories

Jodi Taylor is always entertaining. The first story is fairly long. The other two are fun snippets.

Jodi and Zara do it again.

Another terrific collaboration. Jodi's stories are always brilliant as is Zara's narration. Can't wait for the next one.

Leon’s POV

I was happy to learn more of Leon’s backstory. What he does to protect Max and Matthew, with some help, is excellent. The other stories were good as well.

Wonderful books

Jodi Taylor has such a knack for telling stories and writing characters. She is my favorite author by far. Zara Ramm does just a magnificent job performing these books. I am forever grateful. I came on these books late in the game. I hope I never catch up to her. Thank you.

Always awesome.

I love these books. I could listen to one every week. Even short ones like this one are worth one of my credits.

Another fun vignette from the crew at St Mary's

This is a short story, followed by a couple anecdotes. To call the shorter entries full on stories might be a stretch. The title story clocks in at over 1.5 hours while the others don't break the quarter hour mark.

That all being said, this audio book is worth getting. The title story, while not including a time jump, has St. Mary's in fine form and doing what they do best... cause problems. This time the problems are all aimed at Max's (rightfully) hated father. The man is formidable and politically powerful, wealthy, a perceived pillar of his community. He stands no chance against the combined distain of the St. Mary's crew as they close ranks to protect one of their own. It's a distinct pleasure to "watch" them quietly take him down.

Highly recommended for fans of the St. Mary's series. Others may get a bit lost in the back story, but will likely get enough of it to appreciate the pay off.

Fantastic story

Very minor spoilers: Loved the story, but it was a bit confusing knowing who was talking, as a lot of this was written from Leon’s perspective and you don’t realize that fir a while. Also, unless you’ve read every one of the books in this series, you do t know WHY her father deserves what he gets

Great shorts

Fun snippets with Jodi Taylor asides. Maxwell’s humor never ends and the whole team bands together. Too short!
