Publisher's Summary

A Chronicles of St Mary's short story that is sure to entertain. If you love Jasper Fforde or Ben Aaronovitch, you won't be able to resist Jodi Taylor.

Includes bonus St Mary's escapades 'Desiccated Water' and 'Markham and the Anal Probing' - never before heard in audio - and original introductions read by the author herself.

'Max, your father is here. He's come to take Matthew away.'

Have you ever wondered what would happen if Max's husband met Max's father? What would Leon do?

They're normally a fairly amiable bunch, but this is the story of what to expect if St Mary's doesn't like someone. As in, really doesn't like someone. Warning: contains a unit-wide criminal enterprise, a great deal of illegal activity and a sad misuse of public resources. All the things a father will do to protect his family.

It is also a story of revenge. Because this is payback - St Mary's style.

Bonus stories

'Desiccated Water' - Professor Rapson breaks astonishing new ground with his latest feat of scientific invention.

'Markham and the Anal Probing' - when Markham disappears in the middle of nowhere, Max jumps to the only logical conclusion: alien abduction.

Bittersweet revenge

OMG! Taylor always makes me laugh. From the Dramatis Thingummy forward...
Story 1: When did you last see your Father?
I’m not sure that I found the story enjoyable as much as it was satisfying. Leon takes action to get Max a bit of justice for the abuse she suffered as a child at the hands of her father. Dr Maxwell comes to St Mary’s to threaten Max with taking away her son. Yes, he’s being manipulated by Ronan, but DrM is enjoying doing it. Even in Leon’s detailing of the steps taken by multiple St Mary’s coworkers, we still get to enjoy Taylor’s quirky brand of humor;)
The audiobook has two additional short, short stories:
Story 2: Dessicated Water
Do I need to say anything?
Story 3: Markham and the anal probing
Markham, Peterson and Maxwell run an errand for Dr Bairstow. Guess which two miss tea time.
Ramm does a good job of narration.
Recommend.

St. Mary's is at it again

Another great short story from Jodi Taylor! The disaster magnets of St. Mary's are at it again. This time John Maxwell is their target. He has come or Matthew! You don't mess with St. Mary's! Narration is terrific as always!

Another winner

I just wish this short story was longer. The back story from Leon’s point of view is intriguing and I loved it.

Another fun vignette from the crew at St Mary's

This is a short story, followed by a couple anecdotes. To call the shorter entries full on stories might be a stretch. The title story clocks in at over 1.5 hours while the others don't break the quarter hour mark.

That all being said, this audio book is worth getting. The title story, while not including a time jump, has St. Mary's in fine form and doing what they do best... cause problems. This time the problems are all aimed at Max's (rightfully) hated father. The man is formidable and politically powerful, wealthy, a perceived pillar of his community. He stands no chance against the combined distain of the St. Mary's crew as they close ranks to protect one of their own. It's a distinct pleasure to "watch" them quietly take him down.

Highly recommended for fans of the St. Mary's series. Others may get a bit lost in the back story, but will likely get enough of it to appreciate the pay off.

It's Zara! and Jodi! with extras

Event though this is from Leon's perspective, Zara Ramm was chosen to read instead of a male reader as with My Name is Markham. It is wonderful to have 2 additional stories with author's notes read by Jodi herself. Great fun!! It is also great to have the 'dramatis thingummy' read. Please continue to include in the audios.

Leon’s POV

I was happy to learn more of Leon’s backstory. What he does to protect Max and Matthew, with some help, is excellent. The other stories were good as well.

short stories

i have to say the wait was worth it. this is one of the funniest collections ever. max's father gets his just desserts pand it fills in a lot of things in other stories from Leon's point of view.

Another rollocking grest read from Jodi Taylor

Jodi Taylor can do no wrong. everything she writes is fantastic. Zara Ramm is perfect and must never be let go as the narrator!
To truly understand why Leon and St Mary's treated John Maxwell as they did you would need to have read the series. if you haven't then start immediately you will not regret it!
Thank you Jodi you're a wonder and we love you!

Another Great Story from Jodi

I love the books but her short stories are little gems. Here we have another written to the same high standard.

Zara Ram is a brilliant narrator and her tone is perfect for Jodi's writing.

A lovely short from Leon's perspective

I always love Jodi Taylor's writing and Zara Ramm's narration and this is yet another that does not disappoint. But this time we got a bit of Jodi narration as well which was fun. I am so looking forward to the next book.

St Mary’s know how to get their revenge

Really great story but much as I enjoy Zara Ramm narration I think it would have benefitted from a male reading it so we could have heard Leon’s voice. The story was great but Zara is Max in my head so initially it didn’t make sense as it was from Leon’s view.

Fantastic Amuse-bouche

This a Amuse- Bouche is wonderful, almost enough to keep me going while I waiting on another novel to come out. The Chronicles of St Mary’s has been my saviour during some trying times.
