Publisher's summary

After years of struggling to make ends meet, Ginny, a single mom from Queens, falls for sweet divorced Jeff and relishes the idea of moving with her quirky eleven-year-old daughter Harri to his home in an upscale New Jersey suburb. Even though she's never been impressed by material things, she is thrilled that getting a second chance at love comes with the added bonus of finally giving Harri everything she never could before.

And then she meets the neighbors.

Ginny is quickly thrust into the complicated realities of a neighborhood defined by the ever-shifting alliances of PTA moms, Real Housewife contenders, and their mean-girl daughters. When the neighbors' secrets, back-stabbing, and bad behavior take a devastating toll on her daughter and new marriage, Ginny must decide what really matters - and protect it at all costs.

Double fish out of water, double the satisfaction

You’ll enjoy this book if you like:
✅Motherhood
✅Fish out of water tales (this one has double- mom & daughter)
✅ Second chances
✅ Stories about finding your voice & place in a new world
✅ Hero vs snobs

My favorite moment was an unexpected friendship. No spoilers here but it made my day after reading it.

I listened to the audiobook version. The voice actor was EXCELLENT.

I’m a sucker for “finding belonging” stories like this one, and it doesn’t disappoint. I related a lot to moving to a new place and trying to fit in. There were moments I laughed out loud and even cried (Harri trying to fit in). I also enjoyed the ending and how more than one woman resolved to change and stand up for themselves.

Jeff was a good guy but not super in tuned to what his wife was going through. That was frustrating but also believable. Ginny and him are still newlyweds and he learns to be better.

Overall the story was well written especially for being a debut, and I loved it.

Interesting Characters

I truly enjoyed this story. The main character never strayed to far from who she truly is at heart. I wanted to be by her side to help with some of the situations only to see she is stronger than I thought and didn’t need me at all!

My only sore point was husband who made odd decisions and didn’t communicate effectively. Then I realized that is how a lot of good men (including mine) are with their wives. They love them and want to do the best they can for their families and sometimes it’s clumsy.

This book was a huge dose of fun with a tiny
bit of real family dynamics.

I loved it.

I read about this in a round-up of recommended “rom-com” (or was it “mom-com?”) books to read. It was highly rated and when I listened to a sample of Emma Love reading it, I was immediately drawn in.

I usually listen to mysteries, and this was just as compelling. I felt protective of the main characters; strangely enough, I still want to be a part of their lives! What a fun listen.
