In the wake of her parents’ sudden deaths, Brynnan’s reality is spinning out of control. Unexplained threats are dredging up old fears--and fueling new anxiety about her safety.
Determined to help, Brynnan's billionaire uncle rushes to her side, along with his newly hired head-of-security—former special forces operative, Jack McKerrick. Jack is tasked with ensuring Brynnan’s safety, but when he realizes she's being targeted, Jack learns about Brynnan’s painful past, and starts to suspect she’s in more danger than she realizes.
Criminal activity, dating back to 19th century Texas, triggers the deadly course of events in the present that have Jack and Brynnan dodging bullets and praying they live to see justice served.

I enjoyed the writing and think the author is talented at storytelling, although I would’ve liked to have seen less telling and more showing. There was a lot of talking about “I feel afraid” and not showing it. Even though sometimes it was shown.
I skipped over some of the kissing. Even though there wasn’t anything too detailed from what I could tell, as in no tongue was mentioned from what I heard (though maybe I skipped that part idk), i felt like there was some sensuality implied with adjectives like “hungry” etc. attached to these kisses. And these kisses sounded passionate even if not described passionately if that makes sense. I also kinda felt like the frequency of kissing and mentioning the attraction so often kinda took away from the emotional side of the romance. Obviously attraction is normal, but I mean they just met and I would’ve liked to see more deep conversations, sharing about hobbies and doing normal things together before coming to the conclusion they were meant to be and let’s just start kissing every chance we get. It was a bit overdone.
I did appreciate the redemption elements and how they took on each other’s baggage in the relationship.
Suspenseful mystery romance
