Story
In Way of the Warrior Kid, Marc went from wimp to warrior in one summer. He learned to be strong inside and out, mastered his multiplication tables, conquered his fear of swimming, and even made nice with the meanest kid on the playground (who turned out to be not so mean after all). Now, in this second audiobook in the middle grade Warrior Kid series, Marc uses what he learned last summer to help another kid who needs a boost. Can he take the skills he learned from his Navy SEAL uncle Jake to instill the warrior spirit in someone who needs his help?

After Eric Davis spent over 16 years in the military, including a decade in the SEAL teams, his family was more than used to his absence on deployments and secret missions that could obscure his whereabouts for months at a time. Without a father figure in his own life since the age of 15, Eric was desperate to maintain the bonds he'd fought so hard to forge when his children were young - particularly with his son, Jason, because he knew how difficult it was to face the challenge of becoming a man on one's own.

In 2012, on his third tour of duty in Afghanistan, an improvised explosive device left Dan Crenshaw's right eye destroyed and his left blinded. Only through the careful hand of his surgeons, and what doctors called a miracle, did Crenshaw's left eye recover partial vision. And yet, he persevered, completing two more deployments. Why? There are certain stories we tell ourselves about the hardships we face - we can become paralyzed by adversity or we can adapt and overcome. We can be fragile or we can find our fortitude. Crenshaw delivers a set of lessons to help you do just that.

Publisher's Summary
Fifth grade was the worst year of Marc's life. He stunk at gym class, math was too hard for him, the school lunch was horrible, and his class field trip was ruined because he couldn't swim. But what was the most awful thing about fifth grade? Kenny Williamson, the class bully, who called himself the "King of the Jungle".
When Marc's mother tells him that his uncle Jake is coming to stay for the whole summer, Marc can't wait. Uncle Jake is a for-real super-cool Navy SEAL. And Uncle Jake has a plan.
He's going to turn Marc into a warrior.
Becoming a warrior isn't easy. It means a lot of pull-ups, sit-ups, push-ups, squats, swimming, eating right, and studying harder than ever before! Can Marc transform himself into a warrior before school starts in the fall - and finally stand up to the King of the Jungle himself?

REQUIRED READING
Where does Way of the Warrior Kid rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
This one is at the top. Look, it's a "kid's book" in it's format, but it's also an excellent distillation of what Jocko (and Leif) put forth through their work: Echelon Front. Also, what Jocko is getting at so often with his podcast. If you have sons...scratch that...children, this should be required reading.
What other book might you compare Way of the Warrior Kid to and why?
Can't think of one
Which character – as performed by Thor Willink and Jocko Willink – was your favorite?
Mark all the way. Couldn't have been better or meant more to have Thor Willink read the part.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
I think it's Jocko's job to come up with that one.
Any additional comments?
Excellent, Excellent, Excellent. If you have children and anything remotely related to self-esteem, discipline, respect and responsibility are important to you, read this to your kids.

Not just a kid's book.
While I would recommend it for kids this 39 year old kid got a lot out of it as well. Inspiring and a tale a lot of us lived as kids.

Who was your favorite character and why?
Mark the little kid who was read by Jocko's son.
Which character – as performed by Thor Willink and Jocko Willink – was your favorite?
They are both good! Seriously. I thought it was hilarious when Jocko was talking as Marks Mom, I literally laughed out loud!
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Discipline Equals Freedom.
Any additional comments?
I will be passing this book out to all of my friends who have kids. This will be the first book I read to my kids. I think this book is more important than those Dr Seuss books. This book gives kids and adults alike a guideline and direction in life - something a lot of kids want but never have. Jocko - Thank you for writing this book. It was surprisingly entertaining, and the lessons that you learn from this book have me fired up. As a 26 year old, reading this book, I can tell you I have benefited from it. I want to become a Warrior Kid/Adult..and now I know how to do it now. This will change a lot of kids lives........the future is looking bright.

Excellent!
Not just for kids. This book is written such that the message is simple to learn and can be applied by anyone.
In the corporate world there was a time when writing a mission statement was king of everything, but marketing was behind this message and the message seemed insincere. This book allows anyone, or any team or business, write a code of ethics. This book gives examples of why those codes are important.
I will listen again.

Seriously!
I’m a listener of Jocko on his podcast and have heard him talk several times about this book and thought nah it’s a kids book but today I was like why the heck I’ll listen while I work. I found myself cheering for this at multiple times and just bought all of them to give to my grand kids! Being 44 years I found some inspiration in a “ kids book” that can seriously transfers over to everyone of every age! The fact that it tells kids to get off their ass and work for what they want is a breath of fresh air! Mr Willink if you’re reading this BRAVO and thank you!🇺🇸

Basically Discipline Equals Freedom for kids
Somehow I convinced myself there was something substantial new information or a grand story to behold but it was Jocko's teachings in a different context. A children's book. I love the idea that his principles are now accessible for children but from an adult perspective I'd stick to his other, more mature books.

Fantastic where was this when I was a kid!
I want to send this to everybody I know with a son.
We need a warrior princess version A.S.A.P.
My five-year-old girl could learn a lot.
Thanks
Ben

Just what we all need!
The stories and lessons in this book is invaluable. The real stuff and truth that most of us need to hear in life. Simply amaze and wished more would rise up to be leaders to lead.
