Publisher's summary

Richard's gaze traced all of the passageways, the rooms, the circular halls, the dead ends, the entrapments, the lateral routes, the complex of twinned and tripled passageways, checking, hoping he was wrong.

He wasn't.

"We're in trouble," he said.

Richard Rahl and Kahlan Amnell are fighting on all fronts. The Golden Goddess, Collector of Worlds, has infiltrated the People's Palace, able to insinuate herself into the minds of those without the gift of magic.

Richard can trust no-one but the gifted. So, when Vika, one of his sworn Mord-Sith bodyguards is abducted, he has to get her back. His determination will lead him and Kahlan deep into the labyrinthine heart of the People's Palace - the Wasteland - and into more danger than they have ever faced before.

"The Sword of Truth series was my masterwork. Yet, life for these characters goes on after the conclusion of that series. For years readers have been asking about Richard and Kahlan's children. This is that story." (Terry Goodkind)

In 1994, Wizard's First Rule introduced Richard Cypher, a young woodsman seeking answers and vengeance in the aftermath of his father's murder, and Kahlan Amnell, a mysterious young woman pursued by a bloodthirsty tyrant's assassins.

The Sword of Truth is one of the most ambitious fantasy series ever written. It was a decades-long masterwork that has been translated into 20 languages and sold 26 million copies. After 16 volumes and one novella, it concluded in 2016 with Warheart

The Children of D'Hara picks up immediately after the conclusion of the Sword of Truth series. The story will be told in installments. Wasteland is the third novella.

What a sell out

Goodkind has obviously taken the road most traveled and has chosen money over self respect. Releasing this series in incomplete novella form, charging what he does, is plain disgusting. The next 2 books are finished and will be released in the next 3 months separately, rather than as an actual complete book. So the reader’s experience suffers as we lose interest waiting for the next installment. For somebody who previously released books of massive length and content, breaking up this story in 4 mini books is tedious and insulting to the buyer. By time you get into the story it is over. We must wait to start the process all over again, slowly gaining momentum in this saga without any climax. New readers to this story will most definitely end their journey with Richard as abruptly as these books end.

sorely disappointed

I have been a huge sword of truth fan, reading the books over many times. I was excited when I learned of these children of D'hara novellas. I don't know why it's being broken up into novellas when there is zero sense of any completion at the end of any of them. It simply cuts off. Is it for money? To increase the number of purchases? Why doesn't he just put it in book form like the rest of the series? Not a fan of the narrator either. This whole thing is like expecting wine for dinner and getting koolaid. For being so in love with the Sword of Truth series, I sadly feel like I wasted 3 credits on these 3 novellas. I heartily recommend the sword of truth series with both prequels. They are brilliant and stunning. Sadly, I do not recommend wasting your time & money on these novellas.

Not sure if I'm purchasing the next one. Waste of time and money. Novella too short.

Rather boring for Goodkind

The previous books of the sword of truth were very long and one felt that they got their moneys worth. The last two or three books have been very short and not really worth the money spent. Seems like they are trying to get more books out in a shorter amount of time before the story is finished. Very disappointed in Goodkind. Almost like he’s not even the one writing them anymore. The narrator of this book was rather monotone and boring. Please help!

Disliking these short stories

Essentially, I am spending close to$100 for a book split into short stories and I'm annoyed to the point of hoping once I finish this series, I can be done with Terry Goodkind. Third book in, and the narration has not been up to par. Such a disappointment. If you haven't started reading the series, save your money and time.

Terry goodkind has lost his spark for Richard and Kahlan

This is the 3re book in the children of d’hara series. The pros are that the characters start to come alive and act like them selves even if The quality of the story is nothing like hid other books. This book ended mid thought. There has been no conclusion to the story’s plot like every other sword of truth novel. It’s like it took 1 book and broke it up into 3+ books to make more money.

They just split one book into 4 to charge more

This is just one part of the book that they needlessly broke up. Frustrating that they think people will be ok with this

Sad

I keep wondering, "Did Terry really write these?" They are such a decline from the original series. Besides the books being so short, there is a LOT of repetition and over-explaining. Instead of thrills from great adventures and character development, gore and torture were sensationalized to the point that I don't want to continue the series.
