Benjamin Colt is a Green Beret damaged by circumstance. While others have stumbled into honor, each time the prize of combat is dangled in front of him, it’s snatched from his grasp. There’s nothing for a professional warrior to do except keep getting up no matter how many times he’s knocked down, hoping that the next time will be the one that brings him his day of days.

But just as he’s poised to get his wish, the universe plays another practical joke on him…. Aliens are real, and come bearing gifts that are secretly sending the world back to the Stone Age.

Using their technology to beat them at their own game, Colt and his team are catapulted onto a world not their own. The ancient and dying world of a dream. There he must fight perilous and personal battles against barbaric aliens and the twisted hearts of men, surrounded by the tragic remnants of a once great civilization—one slowly withering from the memory of the galaxy to return to the red dust from which it came.

A thrilling military adventure of air cars, ray guns, four-armed giants and eight-legged cavalry, miniguns, and 40mm grenades. A captive princess needs a hero to save a world…and Ben Colt, who needs a princess to make him—a Warlord.

Doc Spears’ Warlord harkens the golden days of science fiction and fantasy with a decidedly modern military twist that will keep you reading page after thrilling page.” (Jason Anspach, AP best-selling author)

Love the author and the narrator. The Galaxy's Edge Dark Operator series is a favorite. This book is great...well worth the time and credit. only complaint is that the guy must have watched John Carter right before writing and forgot that war tribe of 4 armed green Martians fighting human (using strong colors to define themselves ) on air machines and earthlings who can jump /hop cast differences and are strong due growing up on Earth's heavier gravity .

a total rip off but still a great read/listen

Love your books Doc, but John Carter ripoff? why??

I like both of those stories, so started out promising. But it lost me after a few hours. The set up is pretty much exactly Forgotten Ruin: technology disintegrating plague sweeps earth, military sends a bunch of guys forward in time to rebuild. something goes wrong and they end up somewhere else. The MC has a bit of a “doesn’t belong “ vibe w a confidence problem.
John Carter: mars, huge green multi armed and tusked brutal alien creatures of warrior culture that kill anything weak. Super strong , gravity defying earthlings that can “kill in one blow”
Thinking MC is a mystical type creature from beyond the river /underworld (Tharn). Saving a Red princess. Even the devoted alien dog that will do anything for him.
I was fine w all this— until the MC turned into a blatant navel-gazer who suddenly became so full of himself I don’t know what happened. He makes stupid decisions in order to prove himself. (And like one reviewer said, proves the chief right in that respect) After giving us a lecture about how he’s an expert in fighting, but an even bigger expert in control, he proceeds to display none as he does more impulsive stupid things bc he gets mad or otherwise overcome by emotions.
And the princess, head-over-heels-in-1-glance, screw everyone else I will save you at all costs ! Is so eye-rolling cringy it put me off.
Whereas Talker in FR never shuts up about coffee, this MC never shuts up about himself or the princess.
Overall I like FRuin more. Coffee madness aside, the characters and their changing abilities are more interesting, and the nano plague transformed world and it’s new creatures and magic are more interesting than John Carter’s Mars world is to me.

John Carter + Forgotten Ruin

Doc Spears tells a fantastic story with all the detail, fun, technical, larger than life characters, familiar aspects and exciting plots that you love about this type of genre.
The narrator does it Justice. I can’t wait until the next in the series.

Modern Fantasy Scifi with a Retro Flair

It was a little bit too much like John Carter. But the narrator did great with the materials.

great possibilities but falls short!
