Publisher's Summary

Conan fan favorite and eccentric YouTube personality Flula Borg presents his first audiobook, a full-length travel-adventure through America's most coveted cultural events!

Flula Borg's fascination with America and its "peoples" have warmed hearts nationwide. A frequent guest of Conan O’Brien, the German-born actor and multi-talented entertainer (think Sacha Baron Cohen’s Borat crossed with Billy Eichner) fell in love with the United States upon his first visit as a young boy. Throughout his career, he has succeeded in regaling audiences with stories from his outlandish travel exploits while paying homage to his German upbringing, culminating in a personality that is supercharged and charmingly wholesome.

In this zany, eye-opening, and delightful six-part audio series, Flula travels the breadth of the United States in search of its coveted and weirdest pastimes to learn more about the country and to better understand what drives people to these cultural events. His adventures include:

  • Experiencing the famed Iditarod dog-sledding race in Alaska
  • Partying Up during the US Open of Surfing in California
  • Donning Elvis duds for Elvis Week in Mississippi
  • Portraying a minuteman at Lexington’s famous Revolutionary War reenactment

In each episode, Flula can be found "shooting the poops", as he calls it, with the people he meets, including event organizers, participants, founders, and spectators. His goal is to understand what these quintessentially American event means to the communities involved, how each came to exist, and why they have all persisted - and of course, how he can take part! In addition, each segment is filled with brief anecdotes about Flula's childhood and his burgeoning love for America.

Infused with Flula’s infectious enthusiasm, Wanderlust, USA is an immersive and uproarious experience that reveals the heart of America in a unique way. Boom!

French Virus Cyborgs go a wandering

At first I expected a wandering romp through space with french robot cyborgs and something to do with the flu. Instead I found a wonderful german storyteller leading me on adventures to discover convict unicorns and a sad, sad elvis. Not to mention abducted space dogs. I will forever be indebted to this weird, wonderful man.

Borgtastic!

Flula plays with American English like Johnny Utah plays with danger. Which is to say, um, goodly.

Fantastic with some mixing issues

This is a wonderfully fun journey of American culture through German comedian Flula Borg. Do not expect anything serious as Flula experiences these activities with the silliness that anyone from the outside would have.

My only issue was that I constantly had to adjust the volume because it would change from quiet talking to loud music and back.

Deutsche Borat

I was reeled in by the first chapter!! What’s not to love about a story of a boy from Germany being fascinated by American culture and sneaking onto a US military base to play video games only to become best friends with the son of a GI stationed on that base.

I am a total Teutonphile, so I was immediately drawn to the idea of this story. While the other chapters provided tidbits of entertainment and insight into the musings of a German traveler in America, I felt that Flula tried too hard to be funny, and often came across as though he were imitating Sacha Baron Cohen’s method of portraying Borat. Flula clearly is brilliant and has an impressive command of the English language, but his attempt to screw up his English for the sake of comedy makes his story disingenuous and not at all funny (as does his simpleton facade in some of the other stories, the unicorns being the most cringe-inducing). Sorry, dude, but I know you know better.

All in all, this was not a total waste of time, but I can only say that because I got it for free. Had I paid the full price for this particular book, I’d probably write a more scathing review.

A much needed escape into laughter

He’s silly but he is so adorable that it works. In times like these we all need a little more Flula.

Ausgezeichnet!!

Love it love it love it. I'm not sure how much of it is put on, but Flula speaks English the way I speak German. Also, shout out to Bamberg, aka the best berg. Erlangen is ok, I guess. Its literally just a stop on the train ride to Nürnberg...

A funny & entertaining listen, Flula is a riot.

Listened to this in one sitting, it was engaging and entertaining, random and highly enjoyable. It is an easy listen and anyone who has seen Flula on YouTube and enjoyed his light hearted and slightly eccentric character, will definitely enjoy this.

His interactions with the people throughout the book are priceless and his whimsical attitude towards life and his 'planned lifelong ambitions' will have people who are familiar with Flula, and others who may not be, laughing out loud.

If Flula has made you laugh in the past then I recommend this without hesitation but frankly if you don't know who he is but are looking for a fun, energetic, feel good story based around childhood dreams, misunderstanding idioms and interactions with some rather strange people - you will most likely enjoy 'Wanderlust, USA' .

Zany guy

Flula Borg is for those with a rather niche sense of humor, but if you've seen him on Conan and find his mispronunciations funny then the is the audiobook for you!

You might even learn a few things about America and Germany, in these silly interviews some of which may or may not be a joke, but mostly it's just dumb and charmingly hilarious

I for one love this guy. He's even now a movie star in the new The Suicide Squad...
