Publisher's summary

A young woman seeks the truth about her family on a distant world, uncovering secrets that will lead the Interstellar Union into civil war and risk the lives of all who love her.

Sometimes, doing nothing and waiting for the right time takes more courage than doing the wrong thing right away. But I can’t do nothing. My parents lied to me. About everything. Now is my time. I’m going to Bodens Gate where all of it started, and I’m going to find the truth. About everything.

I am brave. That’s the lie I tell myself when the shaking starts deep inside, and my body and mind curl inward from the terror that’s waiting for me. My friends Winona and Sam hold me together. They’re the only ones that can.

I will fight the Tarakana that hide in the shadows, shifting shapes and feeding on us. No one believes the Tarakana exist, but they do. The one inside my mind is good. I call him Merrimac. The bad ones are tearing the Interstellar Union apart to feed on our pain. I’ll stop them, even if they tear me apart while I’m doing it.

Exciting adventure — and an exciting listen

I'd read Wandering Soul and loved it. But there was something new and interesting about listening to it... It really brought to life all types of things so that I heard them more clearly and saw them more vividly.

The voice actor is superb and nails the sense of the main character — a precocious, intellectual 16 year old woman — as she experiences alien planets and even an alien species. Quite worth it and I thought her performance superb.

An Unexpected Journey

After reading Wandering Star, I was unprepared for the journey of Mala Dusa. She is an incredibly well-written teenage girl. She is intelligent, but inexperienced. She makes mistakes, she acts rashly, and she comes through for the people she loves. The book leaves me wanting to know more about her world and her friends (and their enemies).

A nice, fun and, relaxing listen

With all the troubles in today's world it was nice to listen to this book. It took me away into another place and time, it was just fun. The story line held my interest and I enjoyed listening to the narrator. Of course you can never go wrong with a bit of a love story mingled into the plot. My only complaint was getting to the end too soon, I hope there will be more.

eh.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

The main character is painfully dumb for a supposedly smart person and not at all interesting, the story itself could've been better.
The narrator did a great job making it sound better.
