Smart men never dabble with demons. I never claimed to be smart, but at least, I’m powerful enough to control them. When I bound Havoc to me nearly 300 years ago, I never realized how difficult he’d make my life, although “accidentally” lighting him on fire every now and then does bring a smile to my face. River Erikson is a man on the run. After scenting his true mate, he’s done everything in his power to escape. Just because he was born an omega doesn’t mean he needs to answer fate’s call and drop to his knees for some alpha. Especially not a smug mafioso who thinks way too much of himself. Luckily, his job at STAHP - the vicious vigilante organization that works to police shifters when law enforcement can’t - keeps him busy enough that he can try to forget how his traitorous body reacts whenever a certain muscled Russian is around.

Publisher's Summary
Watch out for the Assassin’s Claws....
Clay Moreno is a paid killer, just like his four brothers. It’s the family business - they fight together, they die together. Whether they’re working as a group or alone, they are a tight unit who protect their own.
Clay drew the short straw on their latest mission: Assassinate the American president. He knew the case was going to be tough, but the last thing he expected to find was his mate...the president’s own son. The fact that he began the case with plans to seduce his way into the White House via that same son is beside the point. What his mate doesn’t know shouldn’t hurt him....
Nick Jackson is lonely and ordinary in a family of overachievers. He doesn’t want to do photo ops for the press, prep for the next year’s tests over the summer or any of the hundreds of other things his mother hassles him about. All he wants is to relax after his first year of college, work on his tan...and maybe find a boy to flirt with.
This is the first in a new series of short listens. Note: While MPREG exists in this world, we won’t have a birth in every book. This book contains killer cats, ninja bunnies, and a life-changing mating bite. Get ready for naughty-knotty fun and low-ball humor as only Susi Hawke can provide.

I loved this book when I read it and it just got better listening to it. I literally laughed out loud during several parts. And smoking hot sex scenes just made it better. Clay and Nick are so great together. Ninja bunnies *giggles* definitely will listen again.

Good story
his was pretty interesting, but I felt like it moved too quickly for me. Clay is assigned a contract for assassination of the US president, but it doesn’t feel right. He hooks up with the presidents son only to find out they are true mates. Clay questions his mission even more and can’t go forward with the assassination. There was pretty quick insta-love although I didn’t really get the connection between the characters. I listened to the audio version so I’m not sure if it was the character voices that made little connection for me or the dialogue itself. Clay seemed like he was from a whole different era in the way he sounded. It threw me off a bit. Either way, it was a decent story, but I wasn’t sold on how they were so super in love so quick or with how laid back the president was with security, especially after an assassination attempt.

great start
Another great series begins!! I was hooked just by reading the plot and the story did not disappoint. Yeah the relationship between Nick and Clay progressed very rapidly but that fairly normal in fates mates stories. The plot was very intriguing and I’m interested to see how it carries on throughout the rest of the series...
Narration by Kenneth Obi was on point. Even though he doesn't have the range of voices as a lot of other narrators I always enjoy the books he does.

But, if you can get past the voice acting, it's a great story.

Cheesy but addicting
Did I think this book was as cheesy as Nick claims Clay’s lines are? Yes. Absolutely. Could I put it down, and take a break from listening? No. Not a chance. That’s clever storytelling, folks. Hats off to Susi Hawke. I was originally going to give the story 3 stars because of the cheesiness, but I changed my mind. If a story grabs your attention, and holds it, then it gets bonus points. 🐰 🐱
Nick was a bit of a brat, but I think part of that was because no one was listening to him and what he wants. Being a regular achiever, in a family of overachievers, is not easy. Especially if your family doesn’t accept that. They love him, but they don’t seem to accept that side of him. That all changes when he meets Clay. In fact, everything changes when he meets Clay. 🐰🐱
The humor in this book was awesome. Ninja bunnies...lol Another thing this book did, was explain mpreg and knotting. I don’t know a lot about the omegaverse and mpreg, so I appreciated that the author snuck that into the story. 🐰🐱
Kenneth Obi, may he rest In peace, did a good job narrating this book. I loved how he could easily switch between voices with heavy accents, to voices without them. 🐰🐱

Short sweet sexy shifter romance
Clay is not only an assassin but a cat shifter. He gets a hit on the American president because the president is supposedly about to out the shifter world and the shifters have to keep that secret under wraps. Clay uses Nick the president’s son as his in. Little did he know Nick was his mate.
This is a fun intriguing story. I had heard a lot about this series but just got around to it. It is fast-paced had some humor and drama. A nice healthy mix to keep the story fun and light.
Kenneth Obi gives each person a distinctive voice and I adored Nick's voice and personality. Kenneth gave all the right excitement, intonations, and expressions in his voice.
If your looking for a short, sweet shifter romance and like Assassins and true mates this is for you.

Interesting
This book started off a little slow for me, but it definitely improved by the end. The insta- love took me a bit by surprise, I know they’re fated mates but it felt fast even for that and Nick’s complete acceptance of it with an absolute stranger was weird to me.
Having said that once the story got going it was good. Super fun and at times laugh out loud funny, this book became a real treat. By the time it came to an end I was definitely ready for more in this series!
As for the narration I thought Nick’s voice was fabulous. The others were just okay for me, though the doctors voice at the end was a riot!
Overall a pretty promising beginning.

Quick, fun listen
Did the story keep me engaged: yes
Were there any parts I found annoying: no
Did I feel a connection to the characters: yes
Would I listen to it again: yes
Entertaining story, good pace and likeable characters.
• "Fated mates" so 'insta-love', as is the norm on these types of stories. • Nick's antics are entertaining • Puma shifters and ninja bunnies (lol!) 😂
I find Kenneth Obi easy to listen to and think he's done a good job bringing the characters in this book to life. I had no problem distinguishing who was speaking and enjoyed the audio experience.

as great as the ebook
The story is always full stars, because if I wouldn't like the story as ebook, I wouldn't listen to the audiobook.
The performance from the narrator is also very important for me. I can't listen to a lot, because my English as a non-native-speaker isn't so perfect to follow a whole story over hours, when the narrator speaks too fast or too sloppy. Normally I have to SEE the person, who is talking to me in English. Kenneth Obi is one of the top 5 narrators (so far) for me, I can listen without break and have no problems to follow. I'm just not yet finish with the book, but I listen enough to give a review.

it was what it was
unfortunately it has one of the most overused troupes ever and I'm kinda over it, all on me, but can't say it helped my enjoyment.

Killer bunnies vs Big Cat shifter...hilarious!
This new series by Susi Hawke and voiced by Kenneth Obi, one of my top 5 favourite narrators, is awesome and I'm looking forward to the next book in the series being released in audio soon.
I originally borrowed these through Kindle Unlimited and I fell in love with the Moreno boys and this book was an awesome start to a promising new series and I like that there isn't necessarily a birth in each story and the timelines are quite tied together and babies take time to grow, so it's not fair for the author to make the next one in line to find their mate until their sibling has had the mate and the first baby, so I applaud Susi for changing things up and keeping things interesting. A thrilling read and hilarious to boot. Kenneth Obi really brings the characters to life!

Sweet, short shifter tale.
So when I read Walk Tall I dithered between a 3* and 4* - ending on a 3* because with it being the first book in the series I didn’t feel much of a connection between the main characters Clay and Nick because it was a quick read and didn’t leave much room for a build up between the two guys. The book and story arc itself is good and interesting where an assassin hired to kill the president meets his son at a party and they hit it off. Clay (the assassin) sees the president’s son (Nick) as his way in to his mission only for fate to stick a spanner in the works. The ninja bunnies were cool, and I want to find out more about COME and Clay’s brothers. The audiobook worked that bit more than the kindle version for me because of the narrator. Kenneth Obi is my favourite narrator and through him I felt the connection between the two characters more than I did when reading it and for that reason I’m thinking of re-rating my kindle review because it’s clear the connection is there...I was just missing it somehow.

Secrets, Shifters, and...Killer bunnies?
This is a quick, fun listen with Mpreg. There is fated mates, intrigue, betrayal, secrets, a sexy jaguar shifter, a naive human, and - yes - killer ninja bunnies. This is a fun and quirky story of a man/jaguar sent to kill the President to prevent him from revealing the existence of shifters, who realizes the man's son is his fated mate. I don't want to give any spoilers, but I thought the idea and way of becoming a shifter was pretty unique, especially the changes that occur.
I'm sorry to say that Kenneth Obi's narration did not appeal to me on this one, except for the voice for Nick. To me, his deep voice for the Moreno brothers would be better for a suspenseful thriller or some dark crime novel. Unfortunately, the Audible sample only includes Nick, so look at the other reviews before you decide. Could be just me. The delivery was pretty good, although the accent seemed to slip sometimes.
I received a complimentary copy of this audiobook from the author and have voluntarily left this honest review.
