Publisher's Summary

A rom-com-obsessed romantic waiting for her perfect leading man learns that life doesn’t always go according to a script in this delightfully charming and funny novel.

Annie Cassidy dreams of being the next Nora Ephron. She spends her days writing screenplays, rewatching Sleepless in Seattle, and waiting for her movie-perfect meet-cute. If she could just find her own Tom Hanks - a man who’s sweet, sensitive, and possibly owns a houseboat - her problems would disappear, and her life would be perfect. But Tom Hanks is nowhere in sight.

When a movie starts filming in her neighborhood and Annie gets a job on set, it seems like a sign. Then Annie meets the lead actor, Drew Danforth, a cocky prankster who couldn’t be less like Tom Hanks if he tried. Their meet-cute is more of a meet-fail, but soon Annie finds herself sharing some classic rom-com moments with Drew.

Her Tom Hanks can’t be an actor who’s leaving town in a matter of days...can he?

Critic Reviews

“An endearing, klutzy heroine elevates this utterly charming romance [and] the plot’s many moving pieces add complexity. Chloe, lovable Uncle Don, and the local coffee shop’s colorful characters provide humor and heart in just the right places.” (Publishers Weekly, starred review)

“Just try to resist falling in love with this guy, who turns out to be fully Hanks-ian. The deluge of rom-com trivia on Annie's path to happiness will send you on a Netflix spree, and there's a great indie music playlist and jokes for D&D enthusiasts sprinkled along the way as well. Calling all girls and women downtrodden by life and love - happiness awaits!” (Kirkus Reviews)

"Kerry Winfrey's feel-good romance is an ideal ode to the genre." (OprahMag)

If you’re looking for cotton candy rom com, this is for you!

My 5 star rating is based on the genre, not comparing this to Dickens or Hemingway. But I needed a light fun read and this filled the bill exactly. Lots of references to classic romantic comedy movies, particular those starring Tom Hanks. A fun “Pride and Prejudice” type twist as well. The narrator has the cutest voice - perfect for this light book. Pretty clean - some sexual situations but overall like PG-13.

Low Expectations, Low returns.

Narrator was fantastic, and I hope to listen more from her. But the book pretty lackluster to say the least. One thing that stuck out to me was how the author would constantly point out cliches and tropes as if to poke fun at them, but proceeds to then replicate said cliches and tropes. It was annoying the first time the author did it, but then they did it for the rest of the book. I'd skip over this one no matter how bored you were.

Waited for a Meg Ryan and got an Annie Cassidy...

So reading the description of this I was like, "Ooh! Sounds fun and fluffy. I could get into it." And there were a lot of positive reviews for it saying it was what's on the tin so I went for it, but could not get through it for the life of me.

Annie Cassidy, our main heroine, is probably one of the most annoying characters I've had to listen to. She's supposed to be the person we relate to and yet I couldn't stop thinking "wow this character's an entitled jerk" throughout all of her inner monologues. And although I was signing up for the references to romantic comedies, I didn't expect the bombardment her perspective would grant us. It's... a lot.

I don't know. This might be to your tastes and I'm happy you got a lot of enjoyment out of it! But it wasn't for me. Rachel L. Jacobs has a lovely voice and I would love to listen to a different book she narrates so that's what I'm basing my score on for her.

Ever read a rom-com? Looking for something light?

If you've ever watched a romantic comedy (or ten!), this book is exactly for you. It's cliche, it's fluff and it's perfect if you're looking for mindless entertainment. I read this while riding my bicycle because, like all rom-coms, if you miss a paragraph or two, have you really missed anything? But it is fun and if you're looking for truly light, summertime entertainment this is your book.

I enjoyed reading it, but loved listening to it

I read an arc provided by NetGalley and then bought an audiobook and listened, as well.

I won't copy & paste the blurb, but in a nutshell, the h is an aspiring screenplay writer who gets a job on the set of a rom-com that's filming in her Ohio hometown.
She accidentally spills coffee over the main actor, the H and makes all the wrong assumptions about him.

It's a very cute story. I enjoyed reading it, but I think I liked listening to it even better.
I LOVED Drew, Nick, Chloe, and Carter.
Annie was a little frustrating but quirky which I love.
She was a little too obsessed with romantic comedies and didn't have realistic expectations, but it allowed the story to be more of a slow burn vs. an insta-love, so again, that was fine.

Drew was swoony sweet and put way more effort into their friendship than Annie by watching her favorite movies and hanging out at Nick's place to see her.
I guess we all would feel like Annie and think there's no chance that a famous sexy actor would truly be interested in her.

The story flowed well and I was impressed that it's Kerry's debut novel.
She has a great sense of humor and I look forward to reading Nick and Chloe's story.
Chloe's a trip, and I can't wait to get inside her head. She also is the sole care provider for her father.
Nick is a little broody and grumpy, which again, I love.

This story would make an adorable movie.

Annoying audiobook.

I found this audiobook annoying. I thought that Annie was especially annoying, I found her really whiny at parts too. I wouldn’t recommend this book.
