Publisher's Summary

This book is the first of its kind to identify the existential crisis faced by vegans.

Vystopia is the normal response any feeling human being should have after discovering the nature and extent of society’s systematized animal abuse. It’s fueled by the trancelike collusion of non-vegans with a dystopian world they’ve not yet realized they’re part of.

Best-selling author Clare Mann, a vegan psychologist, communications trainer, and existential psychotherapist, not only validates the vegan’s experience but rejects medical labels that claim such anguish is abnormal. As a telling witness to vystopia - a term she coined in 2017 - she provides vegans with a language and toolbox to work through their anguish and unite with others to examine the biggest social justice challenge of our time: our relationship with the animal kingdom.

Validating

This book made me feel validated. The burden of knowing the horrors of animal agriculture really does take its mental toll, especially when it can feel like most people just don't care. Everyone has their mental defenses to avoid feeling bad about their choices and the vegan's job is to chip away at those defenses in hopes to get someone to make more compassionate choices. I would recommend this book to any activists who are feeling depressed, anxious, burned out, or feel like what they're doing is not enough.

This book will open any mind!

A revolutionary book that vegans and non-vegans alike can greatly benefit from reading (or listening). The psychology of why we receive certain information, while tuning out other information is eye opening. Mann provides solid evidence and anecdotes to put things into perspective. I guarantee the book will change ANY heart and mind (including yours).

Pulled me out of the darkness of Awakening

As a New 4 month old Vegan, I was tremendously distraught to the point of depression upon starting Activism work and having my "Vegan Awakening". This book was referred to me in a Facebook group I found called Vystopia. I felt understood and no longer alone on this journey. I feel empowered and hopeful that, not only will my young children see the rise of a Vegan World, but my husband and I will too. I love that the Author narrated it and I found her to be extremely comforting to listen to.. so grateful for her form of Activism by helping the human animals that are fighting for all the beautiful animals of the world. Thank you Claire, I will never stop fighting until all of Mother Earth's sentient beings are free.

WONDERFUL!! TOUCHING AND BRING HOPE!

I highly recommend this book for any vegan that suffer daily having to know what they know the horror that is happening every fraction of second with innocent animals that were forced to live to die and been tortured with a set up date! Clare is wonderful she give tools that help us to still strong and transform our anguish in power change and hope for the animals! I also recommend this for no vegans that is in a relationship with a vegan and struggling to understand exactly how a vegan feels and sometimes why act with so much anger and frustration. Thank you so much Clare ❤️🙏🏻🐄🐾

Terrible, Hard to Listen to

This book, which seems to be made for vegans, reads more for someone who is not vegan. Waste of money.

Lazily Written

The book lacks any real information or insight and is remarkably repetitive. Most of its contents are divoted to an explanation as to why vegans may feel disillusioned with the world and goes on to eventually offer some very uninspired solutions.

I want every non vegan to read/listen to this book to understand what a vegan goes through, and hopefully open their views and become vegan themselves.

Must read 4 vegans (or ppl who want to understand)

Clare's book perfectly summarises and packages all the feelings of frustration, anger, nd sadness that engulf me throughout my vegan journey. Her book helped me recognise those feelings and inspired me to work through them effectively, hold a positive mindset, as well as learn to effectively communicate to those around me who are avoidant of the subject of veganism and navigate those relationships. It's lovely to hear her read the book herself, her voice is quite calming!

Must read! (or listen)

Fantastic explanation & understanding of the feeling of alienation & displacement felt by living a vegan life in a non-vegan world. Absolutely recommend for vegans & family members of vegans who wish to understand what motivates them & why they may be suffering with what SEEMS like a mental health issue.
