"When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth." So said Sherlock Holmes of Baker Street, more than a century ago.

Vionna Valis and Mary Jane Kelly are a pair of hardworking psychic detectives experiencing a run of bad luck. A new detective agency, the Femmes Fatales, is taking most of their business. Things seem to change for the better in the form of a new client named Scudder Moran, a wealthy young man with a unique problem: He has been targeted by the very, very late Professor James Moriarty - the Napoleon of crime in another century, now Lord of the Vampires! Vionna and Mary find themselves in the middle of a case where everything is both improbable and impossible. How will they find their way to the truth?

Unexpected help arrives in the ghostly person of the Great Detective himself, and they set about unraveling a tangled web of lies and secrecy that reaches deep into each of their lives. Can they find the light before Moriarty unleashes his final, most horrific scheme?

Vionna and the Vampires by Chuck Miller (Creator of The Black Centipede) is the first volume in the Moriarty, Lord of the Vampires trilogy.

I received a free copy of Vionna and the Vampires: Moriarty, Lord of the Vampires written by Chuck Miller, and narrated by Aisling Gray in exchange for an unbiased review. "This review copy Audio Book was provided by the author/narrator/publisher free of charge via Audio Book Boom. "With that being said, I must admit I didn't think I was going to care for this story, but I was pleasantly surprised. This book had everything in it (Vampires - Sherlock Homes - Jack the Ripper - time travel through dreams - ghost - mystery - action), the author somehow made it all work in a fun, and imaginative way. I loved the story, and Aisling Gray did a superb job at bringing all of these wonderful characters to life.

I had no idea what to expect going into this book, so it was a pleasant surprise once the story got going to discover some classic characters like Sherlock Holmes, Jack the Ripper and James Moriarty. Plus a few vampires for good measure.

I would have enjoyed the story more if the author had gone with an R-rating and used a little profanity where it was warranted. For some reason unknown to me, Chuck Miller apologized in advance for refusing to use "bad language" in the upcoming story, and I found myself frowning as I listened. So the story read a little more like Nancy Drew in parts than I would have liked. Also, I was given this book in exchange for an honest review.

But narrator Aisling Gray squeezed out every ounce of charm and humor there was to be had. She made me believe in the supernatural aspects of the story with her smooth pacing and occasional snark. Awesome narration.

If there are more stories to be had, I hope Chuck Miller will visit other historical figures to keep things interesting. As two notes for readers: First, in this world, Sherlock Holmes was a real person who also had books written about him. Second, this story was based on an idea for a comic book, according to the author's note at the end of the book.

Not what I expected -- it was better!

Throughly enjoyed this tale and the unique way it blended the major characters. The narration is upbeat and well worth the listen. Would totally enjoy further tales of these characters.

No one really believes in Vampires, do they? Miller writes humorous play on vampires using a female detective agency made up of a victim of Jack the Ripper and a young girl who can't remember her past. Aisling Gray does an amazing job with all the voices and accents. Cute series.

Fun lighted hearted. Tongue in cheek.
