Story
Joe is done with the cities. He’s done with the muck and the posers, done with love. Now, he’s saying hello to nature, to simple pleasures on a cozy island in the Pacific Northwest. For the first time in a long time, he can just breathe. He gets a job at the local library - he does know a thing or two about books - and that’s where he meets her: Mary Kay DiMarco. Librarian. Joe won’t meddle; he will not obsess. He’ll win her the old-fashioned way...by providing a shoulder to cry on, a helping hand.

Story
The sexy and sweet coming-of-age romance novel that inspired a movie! The hot Texas nights were lonely for Ben before his heart began beating to the rhythm of two words; Tim Wyman. By all appearances, Tim had the perfect body and ideal life, but when a not-so-accidental collision brings them together, Ben discovers that the truth is rarely so simple. If winning Tim's heart was an impossible quest, keeping it would prove even harder as family, society, and emotion threaten to tear them apart.

Publisher's Summary
After a tragic accident devastates his family, 16-year-old Rick St. James starts his junior year of high school without any friends in a suburb of Salt Lake City, Utah. When he meets Kevin Vincent, he's too distracted by the promise of new friends to see that Kevin has secrets of his own.
Having created an environment where he's feared and admired by his classmates, Kevin finds pleasure in using his good looks and violence to control and manipulate those around him. Secretly he cruises the gay club scene, turning tricks to earn money so he can party and get high.
As Rick's dad becomes increasingly violent and abusive at home, the two form a surprising and volatile trust. In this battle of wills, their precarious friendship will either keep their lives from blowing up around them or possibly light the fuse that will cause the explosion.

Powerful and Heart wrenching...
What a powerful story and a powerful message! Not wanting to share too much and spoil the essence of this story, I'll just say that the author's ability to describe the emotional quagmire that exists in certain environments brought back some painful memories and fed into my desire for obtaining a happily ever after. Though the ending was not how I had hoped, it fit with the message of this story. The writing techniques of PT Denys and the expert narration provided by Bryant Sullivan made 11 plus hours fly by. A definite recommend...

A Must Read
Although this story was heartbreaking and actually rocked my core in the end, it made me realize that the story depicted is what many suffer through each day. We all want a happy ending, but the truth is that is not always the case. The story emphasizes the fact that we "never truly know what others are going through," that their damaged personalities can be a mask for something deeper. Underlining in the story, it reminded me of Romeo and Juliet, a story of true love, fighting parental acceptance, and the choice to rebel and choose each other. Bravo to the author for not shying away from a message, a story, that many would defer from writing but a story and message we all need to hear...

Tenderness among Hate and Violence
Wow! Just WOW! Very intense and the ending gutted me. I’ve never read anything like this before. If physical abuse is a trigger for you, then I would not read this.
What I liked most about this story was the dynamics between Rick and Kevin. No instalove. It grew, it pushed and pulled. Until the violent beauty of it broke. What Kevin and Rick had to deal with at the hands of their Fathers was horrible and it broke my heart. Yet they were able to find tenderness among the violence. So if you want a story that makes you feel, this is it. Onto The Cycle now.

A story with no redeeming qualities.
Brainless and pointless violence. This would be a dangerous listen for an impressionable young person. The ending is like something from the bad old days of gay literature. SPOILER ALERT: Fag must atone by being beaten to death. AVOID, AVOID, AVOID.
Narrator was excellent, however.
