Publisher's summary

Two young women are stabbed to death in Tyneside. But what's the connection?

After a trip to the coast, Agnes Lockwood is shocked when she finds a young woman tucked away behind the litter bins in Newcastle Central Station. DCI Alan Johnson and Sergeant Andrews quickly set up an investigation.

They soon learn that this is only the first case of its kind, when another stabbing takes place on the Newcastle quayside. Naturally, Agnes is keen to help with the investigation.

DCI Johnson insists that she stays away from the case, but Agnes has never been a woman to be put off so easily.

A FIVE star series continues! YES!

When a faint cry for help leads Agnes to a badly wounded young woman wearing a striking red dress, she’s determined to do ALL she can to help find out who would have done such an awful thing. The more DCI Alan Johnson tries to get Agnes to remain uninvolved, the more determined Agnes becomes … especially when it becomes clear that the lady in the red dress won’t be the only victim of “ Vengeance on Tyneside”. Packed with plausible suspects, delightfully diverse characters, and a plot that kept me interested, entertained and listening late into the night, “Vengeance on Tyneside” is a brilliant addition to a fantastic series! The characters continue to grow and develop brilliantly, as do the relationships between them! They feel so realistic! There is just enough of everything; mystery, suspense, thrills, and tension, AND I’m never left hanging on the edge of my seat too long before there are answers or resolution, and I LOVE THAT. I also love that the story is told via smooth, perfectly timed, clear, emotionally appropriate narration that beautifully brings the authors vision to life! This is truly a five star presentation across all categories and I loved everything about it!

Good series

Agnes and finding a body seem to go hand in hand. Even though Alan tells her not to meddle. She owes it to the woman who died in her arms.Their romance has stepped up to be known as a couple now. Good Enjoyable, given audio which brought the story out, for my voluntary review and my honest

Stabbing is the Modus Operandi

This is the first book in the series that I have read or listened to a narrator/reader.

Agnes, our amateur sleuth is walking near the river when she hears a faint cry for help. Upon inspection, she realizes she has seen this woman several times during the day.
The woman does not survive the knife attack. Agnes is curious and everyone is a suspect. She currently resides in a hotel, the Millennium Hotel, as she is looking for a place to live permanently. Agnes has recently returned to the village she used to inhabit. She suspects several hotel employees but remains a resident.

DCI Alan Johnson, her significant other is a detective. He wants her to stay out of his investigation. His boss is looking for a quick resolution but Agnes doesn’t agree with the conclusion.

I found this interesting, well-written, and page turning. The characters drew me in and I wondered will Alan & Agnes’ relationship survive or just be on the rocks for a while? How can he believe he can forbid her from snooping?

I found Sergeant Andrews a good partner for DCI Johnson. I was left wondering about Morris at the end of the book.

I listened to this book while running errands.

Great story

Both the author Eileen Thornton and narrator Deborah Balm are relatively new to me. As with the previous book I listened to in this series, I was riveted from start to finish.
Agnes Lockwood finds herself with yet another dead body in front of her.

Agnes reminds my of Jessica Fletcher from Murder She Wrote, on om my favourite series in fact, except of course she is British. The narrator really brought this book to life for me and did a good job keeping me entertained. This was a a book filled with intrigue and suspense which kept me riveted as I listened to this story. The added bonus of the romance between Agnes and DCI Alan Johnson added to my enjoyment.

Vengeance on Tynesode

This is a clean British (Agatha Christie type) mystery. If you enjoy the British culture, you'll enjoy this mystery.

Fantastic story and performance

Very interesting and entertaining mysteries with a classy lady. I enjoyed every minute of each of the four books in this series. I would love to listen more about Agnes Lockwood, Ben, Sandra, and DCI Johnson.
