Awesome, except the cliffhanger

I really enjoyed this series. The cliffhanger made me upset though.
Also, they talked about traveling near and even beyond the Speed of light and didn't once mention the effects of time dilation or how they overcame the other effects of light speed travel. Maybe that makes me a huge nerd, but if your'e going to try to be scientific don't go halfway.

Was not disappointed

I was really looking forward to the third installment of this space opera after having listened to the first two, and I was not disappointed. This is a satisfying continuation of the lives of our favorite characters from the first two books. The plot was continued (concluded? we hope not) giving us fair doses of galactic politics, military maneuvering, and good battle action. Overall, I recommend this book, and series, for anyone looking for a good world building, space opera.

Now, the obligatory, "I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review."

Wait for book four to be released.

It was so good that when you can't find book four it is going to anger you. Amazing series tho.

Very Good Science Fiction

Story opens well stirring the interest of the listener. Many characters are involved, keeping the story from just about one person, which gives a fullness to whatever situation arises. Narration was excellent with good vocal pressure.
I recommend this audiobook for ages 17 and older due to some adult situations and violence.

Diminishing Returns

This series, "The Shadow War Chronicles," started strongly, but has become rather cliched. The evil villain is practically twirling his mustache. I think I will pass on the next installment.

Very much of the same

I received a free review copy of this book, at my request, and am voluntarily leaving this unbiased review.

Book 3 of "The Shadow War" has come out, and it is about as good as the other 2, take that as you will.

The book picks up from where we left off in book 2. My biggest complaint is there is little recapping and almost no reintroduction of the characters or places. This is a tricky thing to get right, as too much is frustrating/boring and none forces me to try and remember an odd ball alien name from months (and possibly dozens) of books ago. Just a sentence or 2 outlining who the character or place, and what makes then important, like they were a military commander that beaten by Blake and jailed by the empire for failure to kill him, but not before stealing the encrypted location of earth..

Other than that the book was enjoyable. Not much in the way of new characters and it is a typical third installment. Not much makes this stand out and it is a pretty much "by the numbers" entry. And that is what stops the book (and series) from being great, it is all just pretty bland. There's nothing wrong with it, it's got interesting characters, cool aliens, excellent tech and an excellent handle of the psychology of senior politicians. However, at the same time, it could be so much more. The books are sci-fi, comedy, thriller, military, love story, and space opera. It's too much and in the end it's none of these (except sci fi) because it can't commit to any of them.

I did enjoy it, however. The cast (when I remembered who they were) are likeable and I care about their stories. The setting it great, though much more limited than previous books, and the plot had ups and downs with failures and successes.

The voice narration by, Rhys David, is very good, again. He has a good range of voice and does a good villain. His female voices still need work, but he does them passably.

All in all, a pretty OK book. Nothing ground breaking, but nothing terrible either. It needs to get a little less predictable, and a lot more focused on the type of book it wants to be.

If you've read books 1 and 2, then you'll want to read this one, but don't jump in at this book, you won't know what's going on.
