From Wall Street Journal bestselling author Kendra Elliot.
When an eleven-year-old is abducted on her way to school, the FBI doesn’t waste a moment, sending agents to scour the area and embedding Special Agent Ava McLane with the distraught family. In the eye of the storm is local detective Mason Callahan, whose life is crumbling to pieces - he’s related to the victim, and his longtime confidential informant has just been murdered.
Both he and Agent McLane hole up in the victim’s family home. Every second counts in a kidnapping case, and the stakes keep rising the longer the girl is missing. As Ava and Mason struggle to hold the family together in their darkest hour, the two investigators find themselves drawn to each other.

***Not my typical read- no romance suspense like my typical MO.. , mystery audio book done with my favorite narrators***I have to note that Nick Podehl was phenomenal in this book- the different voices in the book was unbelievably real, that you truly thought multiple readers were narrating!! Bravo Brilliance audio on the selection of Amy and Nick!!!
This wasn't may typical read, even thou I'm HUGE on romance suspense, this was not romance suspense. This was just a mystery suspense that kept me guessing thru the whole story. I really thought maybe Mason's partner was involved but the last person I thought would be who it was- without mentioning names.
The book was about a little girl that was kidnapped, and Mason our main character was the little girl's family. His son Jake is the little girls step-brother. Being a detective he wanted to be the voice of reason for the public to help find the little girl and help support the family. However, what Mason didn't know was he found himself smack right in the middle of a murder investigation that points him out as the murderer of an informant. Putting his issue aside knowing he didn't kill anyone, he focused on getting the little girl back.
The story leads you in all sorts of directions, on who was the kidnapper. But the twist of events putting him and his son in the spotlight was what I least expected. This was again was one of the best audiobooks I've ever listened to, and kept me intrigued from Chapter 1. If you are looking for a mystery read than this one is for you.
I found this book by searching for books that Amy McFadden has narrated and I'm so glad I found it!!
