Publisher's summary

When an ex-marine and his highly trained dog are hired to protect the daughter of a Hollywood star, love was the furthest thing from their minds. But when it becomes clear that she is in danger, how far will he go to save her?

Perfect for fans of Nora Roberts, Roxanne St. Claire, heartwarming romantic suspense, and dog lovers everywhere!

Kane Turner is a simple man who cares nothing for riches. Scarred both physically and mentally from his tours as a marine, all Kane cares about is his bike, beer, and dog Bud - and not necessarily in that order. He lives in a trailer on the beach, working security detail for his friend’s company, protecting some of the wealthiest (and most superficial) people in the world with loyal Bud at his side.

Ask anyone and they’d tell you that Lexi Gray-Rockefeller has it all. The daughter of Hollywood royalty, she’s rich, one of the most stunning women in the world with parents who dote on her. Yet Lexi is lonely. All she wants is to work with animals. She doesn’t care for the LA lifestyle, having struggled to make any lasting relationships: People are generally too in awe of her family or befriend her only for what they can get.

Following a series of threats, Kane is hired to protect Lexi, yet despite their world of differences the two of them find themselves falling in love. In Kane (and his dog Bud), Lexi has found an authentic soul who doesn’t care who her parents are or how wealthy she is, while Lexi is the one person who can seemingly heal Kane’s wounds.

When Lexi is kidnapped, Kane only has a short time to save her. Can he find her before time runs out?

Heat level: a hint of steam - nothing graphic.

This book also covers billionaire and military themes. This is a stand-alone book with no cliffhangers, though you'll get the best experience by enjoying the series in order.

Loved this!

There is nothing better than finding a new author to love! Joanne Ho writes the first book, Until the Stars Don't Shine, in her Silver Screen series, and I am in love. The story features Lexi, the daughter of a famous actress who has been sheltered from the craziness of the public eye. She has never lost sight of what is important in life. Now her life is being threatened, and her parents have taken action, hiring a bodyguard. Kane is the best at his job, and with his partner, Bud, they are unstoppable. Given the task of keeping Lexi safe, they are on top of her protection. And I am in love. Yes, Kane is a fantastic character. A veteran with PTSD, and a will to keep things as normal as possible, he is amazing. Lexi is as real as can be, and she compassionate and loving. But for me, Bud is my love interest. This dog is just amazing! In tune to his master and understanding his mission as well as just being an amazing pet, he stole my heart. Joanne Ho has a winner on her hands, with a romantic suspense that will keep you on the edge of your seat and win your heart.

Allyson Voller gives a fantastic performance. I love her voice in all of her narrations as she really finds the essence of the story and brings it out through her voice. She finds Kane's venerability and though keeps him the protector, has a slight passiveness to his voice, making him real. I loved her voice for Lexi, keeping her a little scared and very determined. And she brings all the others to life, with a different sound, each their own. It is a listen of pure enjoyment.

A new heartwarming series!!

Reviewer: Teresa Fallen Angel

Summary:
Lexi was given all that life had to offer(fortune, the fame of her parents) when all she ever wanted to a quiet life. Her parents loved her, but their priorities were definitely their jobs and positions. That left Lexi to be raised by the housekeeper which she didn’t mind. The issue was her goals in life were different than her parents.

Kane carried with him the scars, both physical and psychological, form his time in the military. Kane’s job as the head of security for his friends business was right up his alley. Now Kane found his dog Bud from a kennel where no one else was willing to give the dog the time to accept them. In return tow of them worked together as a team.

Lexi and Kane’s worlds intersected when a threat against Lexi brought them together.

This was a wonderful and inspiring story about courage, love, and second chances. Bud ‘s ability to interact with everyone around him sometimes made me forget he was a dog. His loyalty to Kane and then Lexi was inspiring. Lexi’s understanding and acceptance of Kane’s difficulties opened up his life to possibilities that he never expected to have. This was a heartwarming story and I for one look forward to the next book in Silver Screen series.

Another well-written & enjoyable read/listen

Until The Stars Don't Shine (Silver Screen Secrets, #1), my twentieth read from author Jo Ho, and it will not be my last. Every time you pick a book to read you hope it's a WOW read, this one is! A well-written story from a very good author. No spoilers from me. You need to buy and read the book then leave a review. I discovered Jo Ho when an email from the author encouraged me to read & review The Boy Next Door so I did. So when I was offered the chance to read &review Until The Stars Don't Shine (Silver Screen Secrets, #1), I jumped at it. Narrator Allyson Voller's wonderful narration adds to the book's enjoyment. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).

Great Story & Narration🎧 Entertaining & Enjoyable!

This book is entertaining and enjoyable, the story is original and interesting, it swept me right in and lead characters Lexi, Kane & Bud, the best dog ever. Lexi, daughter of Hollywood royalty, grew up in luxury, but she never took any of it for granted. She did not want any favoritism when it came to her job and started from the bottom, she loves animals and does a lot of charity work and fundraising for them. Her parents are very protective of her so when threats are made against her they keep her in the dark about it but do hire extra security. Kane, former marine and security expert takes the job as a favor, he is not thrilled about it because he knows the Hollywood types could be difficult and their kids may be spoiled brats. I loved how Kane and Lexi first meet, he is quite taken with what he sees, Bud took to her immediately too. I also love how everything plays out in this book, it is cleverly plotted, there are some sweet and delightful elements in this book as well as a bit of mystery and thrilling suspense. There is also drama, some angst, a whole lot of heart and the start of a wonderful romance. Joanne Ho, thank you for this amazing story and the emotional rollercoaster ride.

Allyson Voller is a fabulous narrator and voice artist. She does an amazing job portraying the characters, bringing them to life, humanizing them but giving them their own voice and personality, as well as heart and emotions. She sets the perfect tone for the story, includes a dramatic touch in her performance which enhances the great story to another level of greatness. She is a talented and entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for the great listen🎧

A sweet romance with a terrific dog

At times while listening to Until the Stars Don't Shine, I think both I (the listener) and Joanne Ho (the author) were more in love with Bud, our hero Kane's, dog, than interested in the actual story. Yes, Kane has a semi-tragic past, and yes, Lexi has to overcome societal misconceptions, but the dog is BRILLIANT! Several times while listening I looked at my own poor, pathetic pooch, and said "Why can't you do that?" The story was fine: SPOILER ALERT: boy meets girl, doubts girl's sincerity, comes to believe in girl's true character, falls for the girl but doubts he's good enough, rescues girl from a villain, and declares everlasting love. There were a few plot holes (the parents who were paying through the nose for their daughter's security failed to notice when she didn't come home for a night? the BRILLIANT dog somehow wasn't paying attention during the villain's critical move?) but overall, it was a fun, enjoyable romance. And did I mention the dog was incredible? I asked for and was gifted a copy of the audiobook in exchange for an objective review. I look forward to more from this series.

Dogs, Love, Security Spectacular

I received this audiobook free for an honest review. This is a story of rich girl falling in love with her security guard. However, this is not typical. In enters Buddy, the security dog. Of course Lexi, as a pet lover, has something in common with Kane, love for animals. This story is very well written. The suspenseful romance, keeps the listener's attention from beginning to end. I really enjoyed this clean/wholesome story. The narrator is new to me. She did an excellent job with the characters and their personalities.

Wonderful Suspense and Romance

So, I will start with my parent review- PG13-R/18+ language was mild (no f-bombs), mild violence but nothing graphic, the rating has more to do with the love making scenes- although not overly graphic there's definitely more than enough detail to thoroughly paint the picture. Tastefully done and not at the level of Fifty Shades of Grey but if you like having the door closed early this one does not. I recommend for readers 18+.

As for the story, it was thrilling and quite lovely! Like many romance novels the romance is a bit predictable (which, face it, we all love that) but the suspense/thriller side of this one nicely kept me on my toes and guessing. I loved the dog element and thought the narrator did a great job with the voice differentiation and overall performance. Wonderful story and I definitely recommend this to the adult romance reader!

love it

Lexi is a daughter of Hollywood royalty. She has been kept out of the paparazzi spotlight. Until the day some very private photos appeared online. Also there have been threats against her. Kane and his dog Bud were hired to be her bodyguard. Bud is a well trained dog who was really an integral part of the story. Kane always followed the rules, except when it came to Lexi! the first rule was never get involved with your client.
Allyson Voller narration was very good. She captured the emotions and brought the story to life. I enjoyed listening to this sexy, romantic, suspenseful story.

Excellent Audiobook

This is the first book I've read/listened to by Joanne Ho. I wasn't quite in the mood for it so I was downloading others to listen to when I accidentally hit download. After finishing the others, I decided to go ahead and listen to this book. I'm so glad I did!! I LOVED Lexi. She was such a down to earth, kind, caring woman. Kane was a dream kind of man. I was so invested in them They made an excellent couple. Although I did guess who the villain was, the story kept me in suspense about how it would all play out.

Allyson Voller did a wonderful job. She has such a soothing voice. She wasn't consistent in keeping the different characters separate, but it was still easy to follow along with who was speaking. She did well with both male and female voices. I'd like to hear her in more books.
