Publisher's Summary

The Hunger Games meets Cinderella. This fairy tale has no happy endings - only dark beginnings. They call them the Crimson Fold. High up in their castle they look down on my little world and wield a silent control. That is, until the invitations are sent out. I never dreamed I'd be selected. They tell me it's a privilege. I should be honored.

But the fear in their eyes doesn't lie. If I refuse to go, my family will be shunned. If I go, my life and my body will no longer be mine. It'll be theirs. At midnight it will be over. At midnight, I'll be his.

Great narration!

I was quite pleased with this story- It was very low on the heat level but had a great story- It was basically Cinderella in a dystopian world with a little PNR thrown in for good measure. Great YA story! I absolutely love Melissa Moran's narration. She brought Clarabell to life in the best way. It really was Hunger Games meets Cinderella. Would love to read more!

Unique Fairy Tale Twist

I’m familiar with Erin Bedford and have enjoyed several of her books. This story is well written and captivating. My only complaint is that it concludes too soon with a major cliffhanger!

Narration is excellent and brings the story to life.

This is definitely different than any fairy tale I have ever read. Very unique story line with some great characters and some not so great characters that try to hurt their competitors.

I’m looking forward to book 2!

Another wonderfully crafted captivating read

My fourth read/listen from author Erin Bedford. Another wonderfully crafted captivating read purported to be a re-written fairy tale, but I didn’t see it, whose storyline continued to reveal & evolve throughout the length of the book. The voice inflections of the narrator were such that I can’t imagine just reading it.

Excellent!

Really great YA read! This was a great dystopian story, well built and good character development. The MC Clara is easily likeable for her real-world views, and her tenacity. She's thrown into the world of "soft hands" as she calls them, but doesn't forget where she came from. I'm not a huge fan of the "chosen one" trop, or whatever you call this one, but overall it was done well. I'm glad I didn't read any spoilers about the ending...I was suspicious and then BAM. Its right there. Don't spoil the mystery!! The only thing this was missing for me was a bit of steam or sexual tension at least. Hoping the next one picks that up a bit. I won't be jumping into book 2 right away, but it's on my To Be Listened list. As always Melissa Moran's performance is excellent. Something about the cadence of her voice was expertly suited for this novel. If anything, that alone will convince me to buy the next book.

Kept me intrigued.

I really liked the lottery, so to speak, aspect of this story. It gave it a sort of mystery/ intrigue feel at times. The characters were rather fun especially Clarabell and Asher. Clara is sassy and outspoken and I'm intrigued as to how she will grow throughout the story. I'm sure she will be "handling" Patrick quite well. Very interested to see where this story goes. The narrator was good and brought the story to life.

Until Midnight

Interesting paranormal dystopian like Hunger Games with a feel of Cinderella and Mean Girls. Follow Clara as she is selected to go to the Core and try to survive the competition or go home with no memory of the events. The narrator did a good job. Looking forward to see what the future holds for Clara.

interesting

interesting...it is similar to hunger games in the sense that there are districts and getting picked but besides that it takes an interesting turn that I'm curious how it plays out.

Cliches and terrible plot

This is the first audible book I have returned in 3 years! The writing is bland, simple, and full of cliches. You don’t get to know, or care about, any character. This story is just a poorly done rendition of overdone stories.

The narrator kept saying, “impordant” instead of important which was distracting because the author used that overused adjective about 20 times throughout.

Save your credit/money and go elsewhere!

A SURPRISINGLY good vampire series

I was not sure when I first saw this book on audible but I hoped it was good and the sample seemed good. I just wasn't sure if it was about vampires or witches or what? I hoped vampires but the story description was not very clear and the story didn't let you in on the for sure truth until the beginning of the last section of the book of book one. The things I thought tipped the book in the direction of vampire genre was the blood red eyes of the girl on the cover and then the title that says "Until Midnight" then written below in tiny lettering "When the clock strikes twelve she'll be his". Then the description of the story states at the very end "If I go, my life and my body will no longer be mine. It'll be theirs. At midnight it will be over. At midnight, I'll be his.".
Not to forget that it says Crimson fold meaning bloodly and the fold like the flock or group like a vampire coven:)
I always loved Melissa Moran from when she originally recorded A Vampire Gift Series by E.M. knight . So glad to have waisted my credits on this series wish there were more good vampire, adventure, romance continuing audiobook series on audible:)
Most definitely worth a credit in my opinion:)!

Fanastically read

Very well read story and the story was quite good until chapter 20. Then there was a revelation that nearly ruined the whole story for me.

Will listen to the end but not sure if I will buy a sequel if there'll be one. The idea of the story was great but it would have been fantastic without any turn into fantasy worlds. Not so much Hunger games after that anymore. ^^
