Great Novel

Rebecca lost her husband a year ago, her mother just months ago, and her sight is dwindling to nearly gone. Her only high point over the last year is her son being born. Now he is 3 months old, and considered by many to be an amazing baby. Rebecca doesn’t want to admit she may need help, but as she faints during a play date at the park, she isn’t able to refuse it anymore. When she awakens after getting some much needed rest she goes to check on her son. She touches him and immediately something isn’t right. This isn’t her son at all. Now she must try harder than anyone before her to convince the world that although she cannot see, she knows that this baby is not her son. Rebecca is a wonderful character. So strong and charismatic. She loves so deeply and refuses to let any challenges overtake her. Jess is sweet, kind, and a little sassy. All the fun you look for in a good friend. Crystal is kind, nervous, shy. She has a great heart, but it very afraid to show it. Jake is rugged, endearing, trustworthy. As I read this book I found it nearly impossible to put down. The curiosity of what was happening, what secrets took place, it was too juicy to stop reading. I started to fear things I didn’t even think of before. I could never in my life imagine what it is like to be a single mother, blind and alone. The terror and anxiety that came sidesaddle with this book was an impressive show of writing skills.

Just gets better !!

The author and narrator are perfect together. This is their third collaboration. The storylines are creative. The narrator is a natural.
Keep it up!!

Great Story!

The story was great, with a surprise ending! The reader did not create different character’s voices. They were hard to distinguish.

Another great read by the author

After thoroughly enjoying not her daughter, I had to check out this book. As someone who has been blind since birth I am very impressed by the amount and depth of research the author went to in writing from the first person perspective of someone who is losing their vision. I cannot speak to this aspect, myself, but as someone who uses the type of technology needed to navigate the world as a blind individual, I was very impressed with her knowledge of apps, navigation, techniques, and the wording that was not typical of describing a blind persons life.
As for the story itself, I give it a five all around. I admit there were times when the main character’s stubbornness and inability to ask for help from her friends was a bit frustrating. But at the same time I do understand. This is one story you will not forget. And you definitely won’t regret this read.

Wonderful Story

It was hard to stop listening to this book. I couldn’t wait to find out what really happened. The ending was shocking. I didn’t have this one figured out. The only downside was the main character being stubborn and not accepting help. It got old and was irritating. Overall though I loved the story.

“The overlooked clue, the ultimate betrayal”

Audible’s tag line exit from every book is “Audible hopes you’ve enjoyed this performance”. My retort is how could you not…? Rea Frey is the ultimate weaver of stories that have a common thread; mothers and children. Mothers who question their abilities and the children for whom their abilities are the recipient or women who want to be mothers but can’t for some reason, women who are motherly toward other people’ children. All of her stories are beautifully crafted and exude the emotions that play on the sensibilities of most mothers: “Am I good enough?”

In regard to the writing per se, Frey is fantastic at planting Red herrings and giving just enough backstory to the main characters to cause a very good confusion in the reader/listeners’ mind. Just enough to make them question who the bad guy is, what went wrong and what is going to happen next. I was on the edge of my seat during every moment of reading each of Frey’s novels. In the case of Until I Find You, Frey adds a new layer of intrigue for the reader/listener and the pièce de résistance of Until I Find You is that she has created the main character as legally blind. It is apparent that Frey has done a tremendous amount of research and interviewing of real blind people. The amount of detail that she has given to this piece is outstanding. When the main character describes the amounts of steps that she takes to get from one location to another, how senses are heightened, how memory plays such a large part in their lives, how in the beginning of her blindness she would second guess her self all of the time and her fear of a slow descent into complete blindness. These things really draw the reader/listener into Bec’s world and the world of a truly blind person so adeptly that is just absolutely breathtaking.

As the performer of this piece Samantha Desz is very good at differentiating her voice between the characters both male and female in an extremely clear fashion. Her acting skills are perfectly matched for this novel; not too over the top and not to under played. I would recommend to listen to any book read by her for these reasons. And the production quality was fantastic. No drops in levels, a very steady evenly mixed and mastered final product.

All in all I urge you to sit back and enjoy any novel by Rea Frey but Until I Find You is definitely the shining star of Frey body of work at the moment. Can’t wait to see what she’s got a up sleeves next!.

never suspected Crystal.

I loved to whole story. The story keept you in suspense. looking forward to another one of Rea Frey's books.

Narrator made it ok

Was looking for a quick easy read that was not depressing and I could do things while listening and it fit the bill. The writing was somewhat simplistic. There were times I just wanted to skip to the end. I would not use a credit for this.
