This Story Is Seductive

Publisher's Summary

From the New York Times and USA Today best-selling author of The Vixen and the Vet comes an unforgettable story about loss, redemption, and the healing power of love.

My name is Cassidy Porter.... My father, Paul Isaac Porter, was convicted 20 years ago for the brutal murder of a dozen innocent girls.

Though I was only eight years old at the time, I am aware-every day of my life-that I am his child, his only son. To protect the world from the poison in my veins, I live a quiet life, off the grid, away from humanity.

I promised myself, and my mother, not to infect innocent lives with the darkness that swirls within me, waiting to make itself known. It's a promise I would have kept...if Brynn Cadogan hadn't stumbled into my life.

Now I exist between heaven and hell: falling for a woman who wants to love me, while all along reminding myself that I must remain...Unloved.

Contains mature themes.

A SWEET AND SPECIAL LOVE STORY

Brynn and Cassidy’s touching love story was all I hoped it would be.. a totally entertaining five star listen. It’s got a sad start which turns sinister.. but from then on it’s sweet, thought provoking, tender and beautiful. Brynn had been grieving a lost love for two years and was finally about to move on and gentle humble hermit Cassidy was a prisoner of circumstances and had retreated to a self-imposed wilderness prison. They found each other and slowly healed one another.. but Cassidy had a painful secret - one that shaped his entire life, restricted a relationship and enforced an end date.

Worth a credit? Yes, a sweet and special story, with selfless lonely characters, some sex and great dual POV narration.

Unbelievably beautiful!

If you are looking for a book that has everything, this book is the listen you should get. Katy Regnery will captivate you from the first page of the book and keep you there for the entire story. A novel with despair, love, danger, suspense and hope, you will be entranced from the start. Brynn is our heroine, dealing for two years with the tragic, sudden death of her fiance is taking steps to put her life in order. She travels to the one place she knows that Jem felt connected, Mount Katahdin in Maine. With closure in mind, she climbs the mountain, but danger is lurking. Cassidy Porter, a man living off the grid sees this beautiful woman and with his instincts is there to protect her. From this point on, we get to see how the crazy circumstances that has the paths of these two meet grow. The heart wrenching back story of Cassidy is horrific. This poor man is full of innocence and purity, and it is impossible not to want to help heal him. From a very young age, he has been told that he is secrets are too dark to admit to anyone, and as he falls for Brynn, he holds himself back from her. Brynn finally finds the medicine to heal her heart only to have Cass just out of arm's reach. With suspense and twists of fate, Regnery has masterfully woven this web of a story to create an romance that has every feel imaginable, from sadness to love, despair to hope. She continues to me a one click listen for me but I have to say this is my favorite of her books with incredible imagery and passion.

The choice of narration is key for storytelling, and this team for this book is beyond compare. Maxine Mitchell and Joe Arden perform this story with impeccable accents and emotions that will tear you apart and build you back up. A better duo could not have been chosen for this story.

Guhhh... beautiful!

This is the book that grips you so hard, you have no choice but to listen straight through. I hung on every word and felt every emotion.

Told in first person through alternating chapters in the eyes of both main characters, Cass and Brynn, it was the most magic combination of the perfect author and narration. Katy Regnery painted a very vivid wilderness world while Joe Arden and Maxine Mitchell’s voices were able to bring the characters to life so vividly.

5 stars all around.

Intriguing and creative plot, but the coincidental wrap-up was too much for me. There have been too many books in the last 5 years that try to have these type of shocking or crazy coincidences that unless they are completely believable or realistic, they just don't work for me. They seem as if they are trying too hard and end up looking unoriginal. This is the 4th book by Regnery that I have read and I'm coming to the conclusion that I might not care for her writing style. I was completely optimistic while reading the first half of this story and began to think that this might be the book that makes me a Regnery reader. Unfortunately, from the point that the two main characters meet, the plausibility and enjoyment took a nosedive. I can easily suspend reality and enjoy moments of implausibility, but there were just too many of those moments in this book. Great beginning and certain moments throughout, but the middle bulk of the story and contrived coincidences are what brought my rating down. Disclaimer: My review is wholly subjective to my personal reading quirks.

Religious undertones

Overall an entertaining read. The strong accents were a bit hard to get used to, but they were well done in dual narration. The main characters were believable and their backgrounds drew me emotionally into the story. The primary issue I had was with the vaguely religious undertones combined with an odd genetic angle. Like, I can understand how Cass has a mental hangup about being the son of a serial killer, but the whole tainted blood angle that everyone seemed to believe and was reinforced by the plot is just ridiculous. No, sharing genes with a serial killer does not make someone a serial killer in waiting. Without giving anything away about the story, I was disappointed about how the author resolved the storyline on multiple levels. If it weren't for the last 2 hours of the book I'd have probably given the story 4 stars.

Excellent

Katy Regnery never disappoints. Cassidy and Brynn travel through a tumultuous journey, both separately and together. Your heart aches for both of them: the loss, the tragedy, the fear are so much at times. And your heart rejoices at the love and tenderness they find.

You can never go wrong with a Katy Regerny love story.

Regerny is a master of the deep love story. Her characters have complex psyches and the listerner/reader is drawn deeply into their thought worlds, which are rich beyond imagining. Its almost like magic, the way this author pulls us wholly into the being of another person, forcing an emotional connection and investment in their world. Regerny is one of the best in this genre and this story is no exception.
