Publisher's summary

Diana Bellatrix has discovered the truth. She is the last surviving heir of the Athens throne, and the reason the Netherportal remains open.

In her guilt, she leaves Afterlife Academy with the conviction of eradicating the curse on her bloodline and restoring the Overworld. In need of an army, she returns to her homeland to prove she is a worthy successor. And while queen Minerva accepts, it is with contempt and suspicion, for she has not forgotten the treachery of her son. While Diana has successfully resurrected, she stands a new trial in the court of Rome. The royalty there does not wish for a new queen, let alone the descendant of a traitor. Every step forward is seemingly accompanied by two steps back.

Heightening her stress, Diana can't seem to leave Calix behind. The moment Ravana informs her that he had left Afterlife Academy for the Overworld, she begins to have vivid dreams of him. Dreams that feel a little too real each time she gasps herself awake. Dreams that haunt her waking hours as well. She spots him just ahead of her in a crowd, slipping around a corner, and even hears the echoing trill of his laughter all while knowing it can't be real.

Will she succeed in her quest to become the hero she was destined to be, or will the shadows of her past destroy all that she's working toward?

4 star listen

I enjoy this series.
Book two was gifted to me in exchange for an honest review. I like the fmc and mmc as well as the two main side characters. World building aspect is fabulous.

Relationship progresses with valid in some ways more than others. Story is definitely not over and I can’t wait to be able to continue it via audio. Narration is great and voice actor defo fits the storyline.

Really lovely fantasy-romance brimming with mythological themes

I really enjoy Diana’s story and her complicated lovelife! This second book in the series feels a little more rounded than the first one (which I also loved). The various story threads kept me engaged and interested, wanting to know more about how the overall relationships and the stories unfold. Can’t wait for book 3!

Jennifer Pickens did a really fantastic job narrating - my favorite parts are definitely the bantering dialogue portions :)
