Publisher's Summary

Drawing on more than 20 years of interviews, anecdotes, and personal experiences, Uninvited: Confessions of a Hollywood Party Crasher recounts the unique journey of a former Los Angeles Times reporter who, struggling with the collapse of his industry and personal tragedies, falls in with a group of intrepid gatecrashers who routinely pierce Tinseltown’s celebrity party circuit. Author Adrian Maher is the first to chronicle this unique subterranean culture in La La Land - a group of social strivers, ambitious outliers, compulsive risk-takers, and dysfunctional characters seeking access to a famous and exclusive society from which they’ve been banned.

Uninvited uses all the author’s skills as a veteran reporter, television producer, private investigator, archivist, and humorous storyteller to reveal the unseen capers, snafus, and mishaps behind Hollywood’s palace gates against a backdrop of America’s fascination with celebrity culture. And it exposes the personal struggles of an adrenaline-addicted gatecrasher facing perpetual moral challenges, physical dangers, and psychological stressors that culminate in near disaster.

Unlistenable

An incredibly unlikable and pretentious man, using a thesaurus to tell stories about him being invasive and creepy. Not recommended!

Burp

All this for free food? What is the point? Not for Hollywood connects…not to slip Knick-knacks into pockets? All that risk for free shrimp?

A very interesting and entertaining book

This is a book that I kept enjoying listening to. I had no idea that anything like this went on. The characters were very interesting, the narrator who is also the author did a great job in writing the book as well as narrating it. Try it you'll like it.

Fun, funny, heart thumping and poignant

Adrian Maher takes us along on a hilarious and exciting romp through the unattended side doors of Hollywood’s glitzy party circuit. A terrific storyteller, Adrian leaves us breathless from anxiety and laughter as we feel like we’re crashing parties with him. Will ‘we’ - ok, he - get in? Will he get caught? Who will he meet? How will he do it? It’s a fun, breezy and wonderfully told story. And a treat to have Adrian himself narrate.

People actually do that!

Great book about a subject I would have never thought to do. Some people called the author pompous but I didn’t take it that way. I found his stories extremely interesting and a lot of the time he was amazed he got into whatever event he was crashing. I love listening to people talk about subjects I never gave a thought to but now I need more stories!

Insightful and fun

I knew very little about the subject matter prior to reading this book, but I am so glad I listened. The antics and capers described by. The author are sometimes too wild to believe back to real tonight. This is a great read.

Awesomely entertaining

This book was awesomely entertaining, with suspense on nearly every page, but it also had a great deal of heart and insight. The author writes from a perspective of looking back and he has a great deal of self-awareness. Highly recommended. Also, because I loathe books narrated by the author (they seldom are also good readers) I should add that this time the author was the perfect person to read the story. He has a lovely voice for book narration and had some hilarious, authentic inflection moments that added greatly to the story.

Yuck

I couldn’t waste my time. I didn’t even get past the 4th chapter. As all the other low reviews say… he seems really pompous and arrogant, and he just sounds like he likes the sound of his own voice. Not my cup
Of tea

I was drawn into the world of crashing parties from the first chapter. I couldn't put the book down!

The Best Things in Life…

Totally warmed to this story after rather a frenetic start.
I found myself pulled in by the author’s back-story and motives for pursuing rather a crazy rackety lifestyle for a portion of his life.
A very well told story and easy in the ear.
Ultimately a refreshing change from all of the celebrity biographies that I also like to read
An authentic version of LA and Hollywood from a native who knows of f what he writes.

Excellent

Never thought that you could write a whole book on gate crashing parties.
But he has done it.
Highly entertaining.
And I loved the ending.
