Publisher's Summary

All Jenna wants is to grace the NYC skyline with a building of her design. But to do it, she must tear down a neighborhood riddled with dangerous criminals who will stop at nothing to claim vengeance.

Sent away from the threat for a week-long tour in the wilds of Colorado, Jenna meets a stranger so intense her desire is equally mixed with fear. Tall, built, and incredibly handsome, he isn't what he seems.

After a mission gone badly wrong, Josh left the SEALs without looking back. Haunted by his past, he hides his identity in order to pick up the pieces. But when he meets the sassy architect, the control he tries so desperately to hang on to, flees.

As their mutual attraction and constant battle of wills sets their bodies aflame, danger once again finds Jenna. Josh must face his past if he ever hopes to bring Jenna out of the wilds alive.

Ummm, NO!

So, Jenna's co-workers have to go out of town because of problems at work so their boss sends them on a wilderness hike, with our hero as a guide. I'll tell you why I'm not finishing this: Jenna comes along with her boyfriend and once they have their tent up she's on him like flies on shit. Lewis gets his but she doesn't. So she goes into the woods to pee and decides to 'finish herself off.' A perv follows her, Josh goes after the perv then stands there and listens to Jenna moan and groan until she done. Really? That's just stupid, especially since Jenna knows about the perv.

Also, I looked closer at the reviews on Amazon and found out this was a cliffhanger. I don't appreciate an author trying to make me buy a second or third book if I want to reach the end of the story.

At 34% I'm done. Not only with this book but with this author. I can't stand OW or OM so I'd be afraid she writes that in most of her books.

I've already told you about the sex so I'll just let you know the F-bomb was used 19 times.

As to the narrator: Samara Naeymi as very good, with emotions and voices but that couldn't help this book.

Another one of those books

This had a very good storyline with a strong female lead. But, like many others (that I try to avoid) it is only part of the book. They leave you with a cliffhanger in hopes you will buy the full version. What irritates me more, it has an audible recording as well that I paid for, but only got 1/2 a book. I feel like I've been cheated.

Wow! Another grab you read

If you could sum up Unexpected Hero in three words, what would they be?

Excellent series beginning. I enjoyed the sexual tension buildup between Jenna and Josh. This book has drama centered on women without making the women pityingly weak creatures. Yes, they are in unfamiliar territory in the woods but they are not weak. It's funny and serious. I love the way the author writes the alpha males. They are flawed but so dependable and HOT.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Unexpected Hero?

I never begin a series unless it's finished. I simply don't have patience to wait months. I read the books. Then I got to listen to this audible version. I want the others made into audible. I would so buy them. I did receive this audible book from the author. I freely give my review. I honestly love the story and this audible version.

What about Samara Naeymi’s performance did you like?

Narrator was great and only enhanced an already good story.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Nothing was wrong with the narration.

Any additional comments?

Loved the dynamics of Jenna and Erika's friendship. Witty, snarky dialogue kept me reading.

Stupid, Stupid, Stupid

So much stupidity I'm not sure where to start...

Architect Jenna is particularly stupid and unlikeable; she willingly worked for a corrupt builder and alongside a convicted sex offender. She even made excuses for the dangerous sexual predator, stating yes he tries to rape women but he is so brilliant I am lucky to work with him.

When Jenna and her co-workers were sent on a camping trip, she didn't question why her boss would play for 4 or 5 employees to travel and commune with nature rather than actually work. Really? No one that dumb could have graduated high school let alone graduate school.

1 hr 42 mins in and I have MY first ever DNF

Its my first ever DNF. I couldn't do it. I made it to 1 hour and 42 minutes before I had to shut it off. I wasn't completely aware what kind of book I was starting when I clicked play. I was expecting a normal run of the mill romance novel featuring military man and a competent woman. And maybe at its core this book is. But as of now I will never know. Not because this is apparently part one of a three part series that was stretched out. Nope, I am ok with that fact. I am not however ok with the in a relationship already aspect of this book. There were some moments that I genuinely laughed out loud when listening at first. And then it was ruined. The Heroine already has a boyfriend when she meets the Hero hunk. And she gets all hot and bothered talking to Hero then jumps in her tent a few feet away from everyone and starts trying to jump her worm of a boyfriend"s bones. Eww. And Fyi her boyfriend fat-shames and monitors her calories. Screw that guy. Not literally though. Maybe one day I will give this another shot because there was some actual humorous moments.

Unexpected Cliffhanger

I have read several books by Willow Summers and love her writing style in addition to have listened to books by her. I thought the narrator was very talented as well. Why I did not rate the story a 5 star was because it ended in a cliffhanger and the second book in this series is not yet available on Audible. I found the story very gripping and really want to hear the rest of it. I was voluntarily provided this review copy audiobook at no charge by the author, narrator, and/or publisher.

Loved the story

I enjoyed the story and the characters. A couple of the guys were easy to dislike, which I think was the author's goal. The lead characters were easy to pull for, and it was an entertaining story. Only real complaint is that the narrator didn't do a great job with the different voices, some of them were annoying to me. I wish the 2nd book was available as an audiobook, but I bought the Kindle version because I wanted to find out how the story ends.

Hot woodland guide...

The book started off a bit slow but picked up about 1/3 in...team of NYC architects sent off on a 'team building' week in the mountains. Their guide is the hot & broody type. Some drama with exes then one of the team is murdered. Survivors scuttle in different directions to stay alive. Cliffhanger!!!
Only real complaint is that the narrator didn't have the range in different voices that could pull you into the story. Some voices were annoying as heck! Still looking forward to the next book though.

YES!!!!!

I love the characters. They are both strong willed sexual smart witty characters. The power pulling them close even as they fought it. I love reading about military men so strong an sexy. They both have had past that has damaged them. I have to admit when the voice came on saying it was ending I yelled NO not yet. I love this author. the narrator was really good too.
