Publisher's summary

Veteran White House reporter April Ryan thought she had seen everything in her two decades as a White House correspondent. And then came the Trump administration. In Under Fire, Ryan takes us inside the confusion and chaos of the Trump White House to understand how she and other reporters adjusted to the new normal. She takes us inside the policy debates, the revolving door of personnel appointments, and what it is like when she, as a reporter asking difficult questions, finds herself in the spotlight, becoming part of the story. With the world on edge and a country grappling with a new controversy almost daily, Ryan gives listeners a glimpse into current events from her perspective, not only from inside the briefing room but also as a target of those who want to avoid answering probing questions. After listening to her new audiobook, listeners will have an unprecedented inside view of the Trump White House and what it is like to be a reporter Under Fire.

First hand account

I appreciated the background information and history as she tells her story so the listener can better inderstand the significance. I was slightly annoyed at the bias, i was expecting a different approach but THIS IS HER STORY.

Her perspective is from a black woman covering a strange, chaotic and disorganized racist administration; which i can appreciate. until the black/brown community has a platform on which to tell us their story the rest of us will remain ignorant.

Awesome

This is the 1st book I've read by this author. It's a good read, very informative about her tenure at the WH, how government is supposed to work & the policies that come out of the WH. She writes of historical events & how those events effect today's society. She writes how journalism is being diminished through the presidential years of 45 and her endurance of his criticism as a Black Female Reporter in the WH, along with the daily death threats. It's really an awesome read.

Though the narrator did a good job, I still think the author's voice would have been more impactful.

Very Informative and Relatable

The book was very informative. There were parts that were a little repetitive but overall great content. After hearing Ryan’s voice for so many years on the TJMS, I would have enjoyed it if she had been the narrator. The narrator was good but I kept waiting to hear the iconic voice of Ryan.

New Fan of April Ryan

I really enjoyed this book! April Ryan did a great job capturing her experiences dealing with this current administration. She was able to connect what she was going through with what we were seeing in the media.

Review Under Fire

Overall the book gave an honest account of the behaviors of the President and his staff in matters dealing with race, the free press and the general disregard for persons not belonging to a segment the Republican Party. However, I find the ongoing between Omarosa and April jarring on my sensibility and I may add way beneath April to dignify Omarosa tirades. I think an account of her shenanigans should be a smaller segment of the book. When the account was on journalism it was pleasure digest.
