In boyhood, Louis Zamperini was an incorrigible delinquent. As a teenager, he channeled his defiance into running, discovering a prodigious talent that carried him to the Berlin Olympics. Then with the start of World War II, the athlete became an airman. When his Army Air Forces bomber crashed into the Pacific Ocean, against all odds, Zamperini survived. Ahead of him lay thousands of miles of open ocean, leaping sharks, a foundering raft, thirst and starvation, enemy aircraft, and, beyond, a trial even greater. Driven to the limits of endurance, Zamperini would answer desperation with ingenuity; suffering with hope, resolve, and humor; brutality with rebellion.

Yet Zamperini’s willpower faced its ultimate test upon his heroic return home after the war. He grappled with PTSD, struggled to come to terms with the injustices done to him, and was set on the path of redemption by a momentous encounter with famed reverend Billy Graham.

An unforgettable story of a man’s journey into extremity, Unbroken is a testament to the resilience of the human mind, body, and spirit.

Incredibly inspiring true story. A must read for histry/WW II buffs. Although the focus is on Louis Z. and his life, the book tells the amazing stories of Japanese POWs.

this was a great audiobook! the substance of the story and its momentum the epic style of the book and it's detail had me finishing this 13 Hour audiobook in the course of 4 days. to understand the reason why this book gets four stars you must first understand that I am a born-again Christian who believes in the Bible and in Gospel of repentance for the remission of sin and forgiveness through Jesus Christ and faith in Him by the grace of God. this Narrative of the main characters testimony was lacking in biblical perspective. About 75% of the way through this book I had heard that the movie did not mention his faith very much at all. I was really hanging in there and waiting for some gospel insight, but never got it. I do believe that this man was converted and transformed in his conversion being given peace and areas where it would be thought impossible and life where Terror and death rained. I greatly enjoyed the reflection of God's Providence during his trial and thought that they were many Christian things in this book to be enjoyed , but I feel as though this narrative itself but not necessarily the account had a blind spot as far as his personal sin and repentance. where I would have enjoyed narrative from a more solid Biblical perspective that the main character himself very well may have possessed. it red more like he was lead to lordship and humbling suffering which is great! but from a non Christian perspective I could see this presentation leading one to believe that God Saves you only from trials and circumstantial suffering and not from a deserved hell and separation from the LoveGod! In short, found myself wanting more of the cross in this very powerful story!

an amazing story!
