Publisher's summary

He wasn't always this rich. This hot. This difficult.

Aaric Christos was a guy who protected me. Wanted me. Maybe even loved me.

That man is gone.

In his place is the most powerful real estate tycoon in the city.

He's a cold, ruthless, aggressive businessman.

The only one who can save me and my start-up from ruin.

It takes every ounce of courage to put my pride aside and ask for his help.

I didn't expect him to offer it easily.

And he doesn't.

Instead he vets me harder than he's vetted anyone.

Don't invest in what you don't know, he says.

He's assessing every piece of me, to the point I've never felt so bare.

I yearn for the boy I once knew, whose touch once craved me.

Putting it all on the line will be worth it, I tell myself.

Until I realize - too late - that some risks are not worth taking.

A sexy new stand-alone contemporary romance by New York Times and USA Today best-selling author Katy Evans.

OH DEAR.. WHAT A TOTAL DISAPPOINTMENT

I wish I could say I really enjoyed this book as I did with other books from Katy Evans.. but unfortunately I can't.. in fact this book was so different from the other four and five star books she's written, I'm finding it hard to get my head around the fact this actually came from her. I was so eager to listen to this I'd had it on preorder for a while but it was choppy, lacked descriptions, seemed to go on and on with never ending mental musings, had unbelievably bad wording like 'wet' raindrops.. (ugh is there any other kind) and it was disjointed too. The heroine was meant to be a 30 yr old savvy Entrepreneur but she acted more like a whimsical besotted teen and there wasn't enough from the hero's POV (which sadly meant far less Sebastian York than I'd like).

Worth a credit? Now, I neither have skills, talent or patience to write a book so I really try to find the positives.. but, in this case, it was hard - so I think you can guess my answer is no. Audible please tell me this was her first ever book.. or maybe you just got the author's name wrong.. anything so I can go back to auto downloading her work - and, if you're going to tease us with Sebastian York's narration, please don't limit him to just a few short chapters.

Not the usual from Katy.

I'm a fan of Katy and have read and listened to several of her books. This was not my favorite. It felt like so many pieces got left out. If you've not read any of Katy I recommend Remy or Manwhore. Both of those series were much better.

Female Narrator Completely Ruined the Book

The female narrator, Elizabeth Louise completely ruined this book! As expected, Sabastian York’s performance is awesome as always! I cannot even give this book a proper review because her performance is so horrible and distracting. If this is your first time listening/reading a book from this author, please do not judge her talents based on this narrator’s horrible performance; Katy Evans is an exceptional writer; purchase the paperback or Kindle type version. I will however blame the author for not putting her foot down in choosing a better female narrator. I’m so disappointed in the team in charge of making this happen; did no one listen to her performance before moving forward on production? Please have someone else reread it or just let Sabastian York perform the entire book on his own. My review: While Sabastian York’s piece is a 5 star, I’m giving it a 2 star in performance because of the woman narrator and an overall 3 stars - the book itself lost stars because I could not cannot make a proper assessment, it was so hard to follow along or make out what the hell was going own (YES, her execution was that intolerable).

Looks like I'm in the Minority

What didn’t you like about Elizabeth Louise and Sebastian York ’s performance?

I wanted MORE of Sebastian's voice

Any additional comments?

I was so looking forward to reading this book. I found it very disappointing I couldn't connect with the characters. At times I felt that Bryn and Christos were ill-matched, and I didn't buy into the story completely. Plus, I didn't find it interesting until the last few chapters. But on the bright side, I did like the ending.

The Real Series and White House Duet are my ABSOLUTE favorites from the author and I was surprised and disappointed that this book didn't make the cut with me. I won't let that discourage me, I am looking forward to the next book.

.I really, really, wanted to like this one BUT....

First, I want to make clear I have enjoyed Katy Evans stories, and I preordered and waited anxiously for this book. To say I was disappointed is an understatement. There was so much potential for this story. My heroine came off as more wishy washy and insecure and the hero ... who is supposed to be this worldly tycoon, meh. This book may be geared to young adult audiences. In any case it fell flat to me. Not even the great performance by the narrators could save this.

Even Sabastian York couldn't make me finish.

This book. It's annoying. The dialogue is ridiculous. Dang near a whole chapter on her horoscope? If i heard her say "my start-up" one more time, I'd have torn up my headphones. It had such good ratings and I'm so dissapointed.

I've been bamboozled!

Anything with Sebastian York is usually a sure thing...until now. Elizabeth Louise was awful! I read the description and was interested. I listen to the preview and was excited. I read the reviews and was sold. The moment I heard Elizabeth L. I was disappointed!

Good story, but...

This was an audiobook I was looking forward to and it has a good storyline, but the female narrator was just wrong for this book. She was so "chirpy" and didn't seem to be able to impart emotion very well in her performance. There wasn't much narration by Sebastian York in this audiobook either. It should have said 'cameo by Sebastian York'. So I guess because of the heroine narration and her always cheerful recitation of reading the book it just was so-so for me.

Friends to Lovers...

If you’ve listened to books by Katy Evans before, how does this one compare?

I normally LOVE Katy Evan's books but this wasn't one of my favorites of hers. It may have to do with the female narrator's interpretation of the story too. The book seemed to drag at times and I felt the dialogue between the characters was lacking and it really wasn't until the last 1/3 of the book that I started to enjoy the book more.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

I wish there were more of Sebastian York as his performance made the book better. I was not a fan of Elizabeth Louise in this book. Her performance made her sound like a teen and whiny not a 30 year old woman. I kept being distracted by her voice and didn't feel connected to her character as much as I usually do with narrators. I've listened to other performances of hers so I was surprised that I was so put off by her on this book.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, I found this book to be a little long and drug out. I actually turned it off a couple times for a break as I just wasn't as into it as I have been other books by Katy Evans.

Any additional comments?

I was very excited about this book and did pre-order it before the real summary was out as I usually love Katy's books. This is still a decent book but it just wasn't what I was expecting from Katy and I do think a lot of it has to do with the narrators. Since I got this with Kindle whispersinc, I'm going to read the paper version and see if my opinion changes without the narrators guiding my opinions.
