Publisher's summary

Wooing may not be his strong suit....

Admittedly, when it comes to courtship, the marquess of Wallingham's strategy has been a few roses short of a bouquet. Charles Bainbridge has spent two long years wooing the woman he loves, waiting patiently until he is half-mad. Now, at a winter hunting party, he has one last chance to persuade her they are meant to be. This time, he won't let meaningless doubts, his meddling mother, or a few mishaps and mangled bonnets stand in his way.

...and passion may not be hers...

Safe and comfortable inside her tidy, carefully ordered existence, Julia Willoughby has never known longing like this. Others see Charles as the quiet, manageable sort. Julia sees the truth: This dragon's son has a fire of his own. Enough to sear her with a touch, a glance, a kiss. For the sake of his happiness, she refuses to bind him in a childless union. Her heart, however, isn't so easily convinced, for it wants Charles rather madly.

...but a marquess must do what a marquess must do....

Outraged at the thought of losing her to a dusty country squire, Charles makes a final offer: Spend 12 nights in his bed, and if she can still deny they are perfect for each other, he will let her go. But not before thoroughly tempting the lovely, stubborn Julia to trade sensible predictability for the sweet chaos of true love.

Contains mature themes.

Love at Last

Loved the book at the narrator. Elisa Braden is a fabulous writer and Mary Sarah delivers a great narration. Charles has been a widower for almost 15 years when he finally has found the woman of his dreams. They only problem is she's married to his friend. But when his friend dies Julia thinks it is wrong to act on those feelings. She will deny herself the love she deserves because she thinks she is barren. A beautifully written and loved the ending!!!

Lovely story

The narrator is the best! Thank you for bringing this story to life with your perfection. The h/h were perfect and the mother, well she was his mother and overbearing.

Short story- decent

This was pretty good for a short story that is free. The book story seemed to have jumped a bit back in time on and off without warning and without a lead into it. I had to re-listen to a chapter to make sure I didn’t miss something. The narrator was pretty good - especially for the capacity of the book. One of those minimal drama and feel good historical romance. Based on the cover I expected more steam - but there was only 2 scenes in the whole book. I also didn’t understand the plot of 12 nights when they didn’t go into the arrangement all that much besides laying rules and then forget about it. But overall good book.

Charlie Charlie

My least favorite of this series but still a 4star that’s saying something. Ms. Braden has a wonderful talent to weave a seductive tale. Romance at its finest.

Nice!

This was a nice story. The plot was tight, good character development and a novella rather than a novel. I still have problems with Mary Sarah’s narration. Too breathy, too dramatic without cause, too blasé when she should be dramatic.

Entertaining with a happy ending

Nicely laid out story and main characters. Sexy scenes are to the point. The narrator spoils this reading with over the top saccharine fake breathlessness and gushing. Read the book yourself to enjoy it as the author intended.

Two widowers, twice as dim

“Good heavens, one would think a woman of your age would have developed a spine by now.”
Truer words were never spoken concerning widower Julia, who repeatedly rebuffs a marquess based upon her notions of what will make him happy. She does this, moreover, while he pursues her for years. Yes, years. While Charlie does a better job of fighting for her, he too could have spared himself so much angst simply by communicating with her.

“Oh dear, there went the rhyming again.”
Good thing this was a novella, so the silly conflict that keeps them apart didn’t last nearly as long as the rest of the series. The humor of her rhymes and his clumsiness fell flat, especially considering they’re both older widowers. This was my least favorite of the series. It is current free in Audible Plus, not to mention including in the Vol 2 Collection for this series, so there’s that.
