Publisher's summary

Do you feel exhausted by tribalism? You aren't alone.

As culture warriors divide the world into us and them—fracturing families, friendships, and churches—most of us long for an end to the constant fighting. But does a practical path exist?

Jesus lived in a culture split by tribalism, but he resisted its allure by choosing something bigger: truth. He's now inviting you to apply his ancient path to the modern culture war. In Truth over Tribe, you will learn:

  • How tribalism makes your life miserable
  • How to lovingly resist when a tribe demands your allegiance
  • Why the church is tribalized
  • How to heal relationships fractured by tribalism
  • How to unite diverse communities

How would your community change if you became a catalyst for Christlike unity? Rejecting tribalism is the first step.

Straddling the Gap

The podcast by the same name always starts with the same tag line: “ The podcast that’s too liberal for conservatives, and too conservative for liberals.” The book is the same. We each go into reading it with unique viewpoint. That means each of us will respond differently to the anecdotes and experiences included in the book. That’s fine.

But the authors want us to know that if you are a Christ-follower that that is what should be transcending all else. The unity we have in Christ doesn’t mean we agree on everything- especially politics! But it does affect how we interact with each other and the world.

I encourage people to choose Jesus (the Truth) over some other identity (tribe). Choose Him first and foremost, and let Him guide you. Read this book and open your heart to the unity that we have in Christ - unity that allows us to love each other even when we vehemently disagree with other. The world will know us by our love!

Finally, a thorough Gospel perspective

Great content but even better examples of applying the Gospel to our political divisions. Real next steps to wholeness

A book for today’s Christians

A enlightening book that every follower of Jesus should read or listen to. Temptation surrounds us and it’s easy to fall victim and become tribal. The world is full of lies and hate, intolerance and censorship is prevalent. Time for all of us to wake up and choose truth over tribe.

I absolutely loved this book and it brings so much Truth to the story I have felt in the political spectrum as a Christian.

A much needed read for anyone.

This book was nothing short of amazing.

Personally, it gave me so many helpful insights and explained in simple words how to handle this countries pandemic of tribalism.
Christian or not, I think this book should be read by the masses.

Now, getting into the technicalities, this book was written very well. Like I said previously, I was not confused or had a hard time understanding parts of this book, anyone could read and understand this book, which is a huge positive when addressing such new issues like this book has done.

A few notes regarding the performance, there was a part in the audiobook near chapter 4, I believe, where the narrator just completely cuts out in the middle of the sentence. Not sure if this is something that could be fixed, but it caused me to lose the point that was being made in that section of the book.

Overall, definitely worth a read, despite some technical issues, the passion, proper information, and faith is there, ultimately bringing so much power to this book and it’s purpose.

A must read for today’s Christians

As someone who was raised up in a particular Christian tribe, and intentionally growing in my faith and the understanding of what the impact of my faith should be on those around me, this book was enlightening and challenged my perspectives.

Saying Things that Need to be Heard

Great book. Well articulated arguments for stepping away from your socio-political tribe and reassessing what things are actually important.

Addresses The #1 Threat To The Church

Yes, yes, 1,000% yes! In a climate that believes one tribe of the Culture War or the other is the biggest threat to the American Church, the authors point out that bringing the Culture War itself into the Church is what is actually poisoning our church communities. It's time for American Christians to repent of their idolization of their political parties and start idolizing Jesus again.
