Publisher's Summary

An inspiring memoir from the frontlines of history by the award-winning 60 Minutes correspondent.

Don’t ask the meaning of life. Life is asking, what’s the meaning of you?

With this provocative question, Truth Worth Telling introduces us to unforgettable people who discovered the meaning of their lives in the historic events of our times.

A 60 Minutes correspondent and former anchor of the CBS Evening News, Scott Pelley writes as a witness to events that changed our world. In moving, detailed prose, he stands with firefighters at the collapsing World Trade Center on 9/11, advances with American troops in combat in Afghanistan and Iraq, and reveals private moments with presidents (and would-be presidents) he’s known for decades. Pelley also offers a resounding defense of free speech and a free press as the rights that guarantee all others.

Above all, Truth Worth Telling offers a collection of inspiring tales that reminds us of the importance of values in uncertain times. For listeners who believe that values matter and that truth is worth telling, Pelley writes, "I have written this book for you."

A great listen... worth your time

As a person concerned about where we are in terms of decision making in a democracy, this book will confirm the need for news organizations to tell us truth without bias. We need to be able to rely on organizations to present both sides of issues and we it is imperative that serious journalists follow the rules of their profession. Pelley makes the case for that first amendment freedom that is being tested by intentional disinformation. However, the stories that he retells in his past are well chosen and will provide you with thoughtful and personal details about events in our time in history that he had covered. Thanks for a great book...

Simply, one of the best books I have ever read.

Masterfully told. Pelley’s narration of his own book was pitch perfect. His stories were beautifully crafted and emotionally touching. His insistence on really telling the truth captivated me. After listening and reading this book, I believe Pelley has become what he aspired to be as a young journalist under the tutelage of his CBS mentors...in my opinion, he is the most trustworthy journalist in America.

A MUST Read!

I have been a huge fan of Scott Pelley's journalistic story telling. If you like his reporting on 60 Minutes and when he was on the CBS Evening News then this is a must read book for you. The story starts with the tragic events of 9/11 and provides in-depth accounts of stories he has reported on. I tend to not write reviews but this book is by far one of my favorite books so far this year. If you want a fair, balanced and well prepared account of events, please read this.

Great Book

I couldn’t stop listening! Scott Pelley has a way of making you feel like you are there on 911 and in Mid East. This is a book everyone should read and having Scott Pelley narrate it is perfect.

Learned something-great!

In the age of “everyone receiving only the news that they want to hear” this was a fantastic unbiased report on journalism. It renewed my belief that good journalists are out there doing their job and need to be heard and recognized. We the people need to come together as one and stop the far right and far left polarizing this country. Love this book and the stories in it. Great work Scott!

This is the most important book of our time

Scott Pelley's immaculate prose and directive is more transformative than solely informative. Anyone questioning his or her purpose in society should not necessarily become a journalist, but should consume the most important book of our time for its Truth Worth Telling.

Searing clarity! Reveals truth so often obscured!

Using some of the most controversial events of the past quarter century, Mr Pelley distills truth and the lessons we can learn from it. He opened my eyes to the realities of things I had experienced myself but couldn’t discern for all the spin applied by the various self-interested powers who were intentionally trying to keep them from me. I truly loved the content of this book and the reading of it.

Timely, relevant and thought provoking for our time!

Scott Pelley’s finely researched book of the meaning behind the major stories of our lives is totally engrossing. Although completely non-fiction it reads almost like a great novel! The terms “you can’t make this stuff up” and “truth is stranger than fiction” completely apply to the stories he covers and the relevance of each of these in history. The chapter and details of President Clinton’s impeachment are so eerily parallel to Trumps Impeachment which just ended. Pelley’s own voice which is so familiar to all of us makes this audio book exceptional. I learned so much from this book and completely enjoyed it!

Stories from an Icon of Modern Journalism

I loved this collection of essays that detail Scott Pelley's personal experiences over his many decades as a report for CBS and 60 Minutes. In his own words and in his own voice, he takes you back with him to experience key historical moments and political characters. He provides an insight that only from his perspective as an icon of journalism can provide. Scott Pelley is a great reporter -- but he is also a brilliant writer and storyteller and brings every experience to life in a captivating way. Absolutely worth the time!

A Hero

Scott Pelley since I first saw him on 60 Minutes as a young child, has always been a hero of mine. His search for truth and fearlessness in the pursuit of it has profoundly shaped my way of thinking. It's trained me to be skeptical and investigate information for myself. His story, his objectiveness, and his demeanor are excellent. I dream of world where news is dominated by newsmen like him. Stories of him going into danger, forcing the network for legitimate confirmation of a story, and the consistency in perspective that he keeps when interviews and evaluates people are all an inspiration. I only wish that the rest of the media treated truth and honesty as seriously as he does. Ignoring partisanship and keeping a personal agenda out of news is the bedrock of the Scott Pelley story. If you want to read something not inflamed by pre-determined narratives or corporate agendas, this is the book for you. If you're a free thinking person that seeks truth over sensationalism, this book is for you. If you find the modern 24-news delivery system exhausting, this book is for you. It's fabrication-free and pure. Simply, it's an American reporter's life that gives insights into why the world has becomes the way it is after decades of objective observance. Thank you Scott. Sincerely, Freddie Nosek
