Publisher's summary

What do Wyatt Earp, Belle Gunness, Big Foot the Renegade, Billy the Kid, Dr. H.H. Holmes, and The Black Hand have in common?

They were all subjects of true crime newspaper reporting in the 1800s, and now their stories and that of many others are brought together in their original form in True Crime Chronicles: Serial Killers, Outlaws, and Justice...Real Crime Stories from the 1800s.

Compiled and commented on by New York Times best-selling author Mike Rothmiller, these classic works of journalism resurrect astonishing stories that will take the listener back to when these horrific tales mesmerized a nation. Some may find these articles and their descriptions of people and crimes shocking by today’s standards, but they are representative of the most colorful true crime stories of the day.

This first volume of True Crime Chronicles includes stories about Belle Gunness, who had a penchant for killing men and feeding them to her hogs; Dr. Holmes and his “murder castle”; The Bloody Benders; Amelia Dyer, the “baby farmer”; the darker side of Wyatt Earp; and the forerunners of the American Mafia, “The Black Hand”. Imagine yourself accompanying these reporters, visiting the crime scenes, interviewing witnesses, and penning the stories of murder, lynchings, evil, and swift frontier justice.

Reliving true crime tales as originally reported

Mike Rothmiller's "True Crime Chronicles" includes newspapers accounts of true crime from the nineteenth century. Stories included in volume 1 on audiobook includes Belle Gunness' murder farm, the bloody benders of Kansas, and executed serial killer H.H. Holmes and his murder castle. The author allows listeners to relive these famous crimes as they were originally reported. Rothmiller, a retired police officer, provides commentary, and points out the prejudice mindset that prevailed at the time, including stories of rampant lynchings. I always enjoy learning something new, and appreciated Rothmiller's chapter on a renegade known as Bigfoot. In addition to Rothmiller's "True Crimes Chronicles," I also recommend his recently released "Frank Sinatra and the Mafia Murders."

good listen

some really good stuff in here. I've listened to it twice and it was a great distraction from the internet and cable. I love to download it and then disconnect the wifi. pure relaxation, great info and zero interruptions.
