Publisher's Summary
Don't mess with the natives!
Thirty years ago, cynical sleaze ball director Tito Bronze took a tiny cast and crew to a desolate island. His goal: to exploit the local tribes, spray some guts around, cash in on the gore-spattered 80s Italian cannibal craze.
But the pissed-off spirits of the island had other ideas. And before long, guts were squirting behind the scenes, as well. While the camera kept rolling...
Tribesmen is Adam Cesare's blistering tribute to Cannibal Holocaust and Lucio Fulci: a no-bull glimpse into grindhouse filmmaking, stuffed inside a rocket of tropical non-stop mayhem.

Perfectly Captures the 80's Italian Cannibal Feel
I enjoyed the late 70's and early 80's cannibal craze. Lots of gore, cannibalism, a bit of nudity, and totally off script writing that made for a great experience. The only issue I had is they were all about the same. This book is no different. It wasn't bad, just didn't offer anything that I hadn't already experienced. It is such a great tribute to that genre that it mimicked it perfectly and provided a rehash of what we already have seen. Adam Cesare is a great writer and I have enjoyed all his stories, as I did this one, and he has a knack for bringing a sense of nostalgia for 80's horror. I just wished he had stepped it up a bit more to provide that feeling yet with a new feel. Joe Hempel did a great job and really brought the story to life. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.

Any additional comments?
I love horror books in a huge way but I don't often like silly horror stories. However, this one was a real winner. From top to bottom it was ridiculous, hilarious, spooky and plain pure fun. The story is good and the performance is pitch perfect. Would recommend!

Great cannibal horror!
The story is very well written and entertaining. Narration is ambitious and well done. With so many different characters from all over the globe Mr. Hempel had his work cut out for him. using the characterization by Cesare he was able to create a very enjoyable audiobook.

B movie filming turned into horror
Any additional comments?
I have received a copy of this book from the narrator in exchange for an honest review.
This is the story of a film crew traveling to a tropical island to make an Italian horror movie. The book is just under three hours and this did not allow for great character development. There are two women in the crew and I had issues at some points discerning who the narrator was referring too. I think it was an interesting group of people, and I would have enjoyed to have more of a backstory.
Things at the island rapidly start to go south. I enjoyed the gore, but again, I felt I was missing something of the story. The dare situations felt real though, and it was like I could watch the characters running through the jungle.
All was related to the curse that was introduced at the beginning of the book, but I would have appreciated more background information or some development on that since it was not explained and left at the reader's interpretation.
Joe Hempel did, as usual, a fantastic narration and character interpretation. This is not my usual book style, but I decided to listen to it because of Hempel. I think I would read anything he narrates.
I enjoyed the book but I would have preferred it have it developed into a longer story with more complex characters.

Like an 80's horror movie! :)
Tribesmen was the second book I have read from this author. It was a perfect bite size serving of horror, and easy to finish in one sitting. The story starts off right away. We are given just enough world building to set the story up quickly, and I loved that. With a fast pace, and non stop action, this book had me on the edge of my seat the whole time. It definitely had an 80's horror movie feel to it. Joe Hempel was the narrator of the audiobook, and was perfect as usual. He does such an amazing job, and I can easily picture everything in my mind when he is speaking. He has quickly become one of my favorite narrators! I really enjoyed this audiobook, and I highly recommend it to anyone who loves horror of any kind. I am eager to check out more of the author's work. This author/narrator duo is a great combination, and I hope they collaborate again in the future!

Tribesmen
What was one of the most memorable moments of Tribesmen?
I was hooked from the beginning It is concise and beautifully written, the characters are revealed in each chapter from their point of view which makes it about as intimate as a horror novel gets. The characters are all fully developed in a short amount of time and you are invested in what happens to each of them. The narrator did justice to the story.
Have you listened to any of Joe Hempel’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Yes I did and very good one

Pulp Fiction Horror
Rather like the notorious Italian Cannibal Films of the 1970s/1980s. I shouldn't have enjoyed this tale of a small film unit, arrivng on a Carribean island, in order to make one of the said cannibal films. However, as with the films, I did enjoy this fast paced and straight to the "meat" action, pulp tale of horror. The narration was well done and at least here, the animal horrors were not for real.

Great homage to the cannibal exploitation genre.
A great story.
I really enjoyed the concept and execution of the story. The narration was great as well (except for a few off moments, but I feel that was in the spirit of the sleazy horror from the 70s/80s)
My only criticism would be that there is a lack of characterisation and that the story could have been longer. I think it could have been a full novel, with a longer prologue, a few more cast and a longer descent into madness.
